so if people bring there buggies, other kinds of on roads, etc. would that be run as a heat? (that would be very interesting to see a bunch of extremely different models competing against each other!)

Hey Avery,

The catch-all class is there to ensure no one is left out.  If it means some different car types racing together, that's what we'll do.  I agree with you - it could look cool.

I will not be racing this weekend and I am not shure when I will be back. My knee is still sore but it is slowly getting better. I will be shopping for a better quality brace for it and hopefully that will help.

this may be a bit of a stretch but would a 1/7 scale on road (traxxas x01) be able to run it the catch all class? that would be wicked fun if it could!

Id say 8th scale or larger would be a no go. They would do a number on our boards and people if they got loose. I think the catch all is implied to be 10th scale or similar size.
Or maybe it should be by weight? 8th scale cars are like 12 lbs lol

I think 1/8 might be a bit much for the track barriers, but I'd be willing to give them a "test" run to see what they look like.  We need more people out there!

I'm trying to get the club loaner car ready for this Sunday as we might have someone wanting to try it out.

See ya on Sunday,

Alright sounds good - hopefully we have a decent turnout, and decent weather.  Thanks to Chris M for working on the club rental car - it should be back in business on Sunday!

PS.  I will have the Team Powers 34 rubber tires onsite, as well as the Nitro foams and fuel.

See ya there,

Is Matrix open for carpet practise? I'd like to blow the dust off my 1/12. I know, bad timing with the summer season starting.
Thanks,

Racing was fun yesterday - some good racing even with low numbers.  We could use another 10 bodies out there!  The rental car is ready to rock if anyone has a friend interested in trying it out.

Could I ask a few questions?
- What is the Scale Spec 21.5 class?
- What could be a good entry point for a new racer? Electric touring?
- Is the Spec-R still a good chassis to start with? Can Matrix bring them in?
- Anything else I should know?
Thanks,
Colin

scale spec is a touring car chassis with a 21.5 brushless censored motor and a blinky esc and a different kind of tire than tc stock.  With any body you want (no tc or pancar bodys.) and a roar approved 2s lipo.

Ss is also heavier than touring stock.
Uou can run both with the same chassis if you just change motor, tires, body. Everything else is the same.
The big difference is really seen in the tires. Hey are scale treads and wheels. They just arent the same as touring car tires. The bodies are pretty much the same if you run an ats or camaro ect. you can run any car body you like for the most part. Just 190mm and not a touring car race body. So anything from a honda civic to a porche 918 ect

Hey Colin,

Scale Spec is nice because the speeds are lower than TC Stock 17.5, so that makes it easier for new racers.  It's a new-ish class that has really been gaining popularity in North America (under different names) over the last several years.

Spec-R is off the map now so it's no longer recommended as a good place to start.  Your best bet will be to look for a used XRAY T3 or T4 car.  I have lots of spare parts for these cars at Matrix.

Gasp. I just looked at the prices of new XRAY kits. Used sounds good!

I'd like to try the rental car June 11th if possible. I have a good balance charger and radio but no battery.

I have to laugh at myself, I'm looking for used kits already. I might take breaks from RC, but I'll be involved forever.

Sounds good Colin - the car is yours for Sunday for TC Stock.  If the other new person shows up then they can run it in Scale Spec.

in faster classes, dollars don't necessarily win races. besides, i seem to run a motor per year so the cheaper they are the more comfortably disposable they are lol. engines are kind of consumables in nitro.

Great day of racing yesterday!  It was nice to see a few more people out there - makes it more fun all around.  We had some good battles in all classes which was cool too.  Congrats to Avery for a strong performance qualifying into the A-Main and putting in a solid run in the main!

We have two club races left before Speed Weekend:

June 18 (no excuses for any fathers to miss racing - it's your day)
June 25
July 2 - No Racing on Canada Day Long Weekend
July 8-9 Speed Weekend

Thanks for a fun race day. The rental car worked well and was fun to drive. Thanks to the club for having the rental, and to Neil for battery charging and sharing his shade.

I see a 2013 XRAY T4 on RCTECH for a touch over $200. The owner says it needs nothing, and is in great shape. Is there anything specific I should ask when buying a used chassis?

Any suggestions for other touring cars to look at?

Thanks,
Colin

Colin, that is the same chassis as my 2 cars so myself and others in the club have parts for it and Matrix also supports Xray so that is all good. It also has a graphite chassis witch is more durable and less likely to tweak in a crash compared to the newer aluminum chassis. I think I paid $300 each for mine when they were one year old so for a 4 year old chassis that has some ware on it $225 is a bit high IMO. If you could get it for $200 shipped then it would not be a bad deal.

Colin, I don't know if that is the one we talked about on Sunday but if it is the one being sold by "kchura", ask him if it is the one driven by his son? If so , I might be a little leery of the abuse that it has seen. What does he mean it needs nothing, does that mean everything is included? I can't remember whether the speed control you have is a 1 cell or not? So you may have to think about updating that and the servo. If it is kchura's car, then I would not want to pay more than $200 shipped. Good luck.

I asked him if it needs any repair; he said no. It is just a roller. No electronics, no servo, no spare parts. He will throw in a 21.5 motor. He said he's firm on the price; if he doesn't get it, he'll just use it for parts for his '14, '15 or '16 car. I can understand that.

I do have a Tekin RS speed control. It looks to be fine for 2 cell lipo. I also have two Epic Duo 2 motors. I think they are 17.5, but I don't know how to tell.

Hey, does anyone need a 700mah LiFe receiver pack? I have two left over from previous projects that I am not going to get back to. Stored the last few years in my cool basement. Cells are at 3.30v +1 0.02v. One looks perfect, the other feels slightly puffed.

Thanks for the assist guys.

The Club car could be busy this weekend.  It sounds like Avery's friend may want to try it, and then there could be Colin and another new guy as well.  If it's busy then we'll need help with some batteries and charging etc....  We can run it in the first TC Stock heat, the Scale Spec heat, and potentially the fast TC Stock heat if needed.

Also, Doug will be debuting his new gas car, so that will be cool to see!

Forecast for the weekend looks good so far.  See ya then.

Sure, it will give me practise holding my line (out of their way.) :) If there are multiple drivers for the rental, would it help if I brought my transponder for the car? Or would that mess up the race software?

Yeesh, I see Environment Canada has downgraded our weekend forecast severely.  Fingers crossed.

It's not looking too good, but we will normally congregate at the track, put on our best weather-person hats, and decide what to do.

We cannot setup in the rain nor on wet asphalt so, at this point, track setup will definitely be delayed and very possibly cancelled.

People can practice at Matrix if they like, but I won't be sticking around there myself.  I plan on popping by the outdoor track at 9:30am ish to see what's up, get some Timbits, and hope for the rain to move on.

Ya I will be coming as well. If we cancel Luca and I and mabie Alex will go to the indoor track to give Alex a taste of Rc racing. If Alex can handle a indoor track outdoors will seem like a breeze. ( I already have glued tires. )

Sucky day for outdoor racing for sure - constant drizzle all day!  I saw a few people as they came and went from the lot.  Shout out to Avery for bringing out a couple of friends and getting them over to the indoor track to make the best of the wet day.  They caught on quick on carpet with the loaner car!  Hopefully they'll be racing this Sunday on the asphalt.

This coming Sunday (June 25th) is the last club race before Speed Weekend (July 8-9).

See ya then,

The weather is looking nice and warm for tomorrow's club race!  Hopefully we're going to see Colin and Avery's friends running the rental ride, and Doug's going to flash up his new nitro car.  Should be a good one!

Rumour has it that Thomas might even show....

Setup is at 9:30am.

Re: the Loaner car. Alex? reported that for the first half of the pack, the throttle would stop responding for a few seconds, then come back on. The last half of the battery seemed ok. I didn't notice the problem as Darryl loaned me his Scale Spec car for later races.

- I did install my own transponder in the loaner car. There was an empty slot on the receiver so I didn't have to touch the servo or esc plugs. It seemed fine when I ran the car.

- The front left wheel came off during my first race.  Someone nicely put on a new wheel nut.

- I noticed the male bullet plugs on the battery adapter seemed a bit loose. I should have asked for help to bend out the contacts a little. I didn't have a fine enough tool for the job. I don't think that would cause the throttle problem.

- We increased the steering rate by about 10%. I think it was 70% and we moved it to 80%. Right turns were very wide. (I guess that could have been from the front wheel coming loose?) It didn't seem to be at the servos limits or cause binding. But if it did, it could overload the BEC?

I can't think of anything else.

did you check the receiver antenna wire for damage? i had that exact same problem with my 12th scale and when i fixed the antenna, the problem was gone. also (not likely) it could be the capacitors. i doubt that though...

It was me that put the wheel on. The hex in that front wheel is striped, so if you hit a wall and the wheel catches, it will turn on the hex and loosen off the nut.

Hey all,

As per the posted schedule, we will be club racing this Sunday July 30th.  Hopefully we can get a good turnout as some of us will be getting last minute practice for the following weekend's trophy race at RRR Richmond on Aug 5-6.

Note that there will be no racing in Victoria on Aug 5-6.

See ya this Sunday,
Blake

Hey all,

I'm wondering who will be racing this Sunday Aug 27th.  I know a couple people are away so I'd like to know if we have enough setup a raceday.  We are definitely taking the following weekend off (Labour Day long weekend).

Let me know.

Thanks,
Blake

I updated my post above a bit.

Yes, marshaling will be a problem - same as last week.  If Carter has his Nitro car then we can do 2x nitro heats of four cars each which will help the marshaling situation a lot.

Hey all,

After a couple weeks off, we're hoping to be back racing this Sunday, Sept 10th.  At the moment, the weather is looking "Cloudy" for Sunday.  We'll keep an eye on it.

Let's get out there and take advantage of the last 2-3 weeks of summer.

See ya there,

Hi all,

We didn't race this past Sunday because at 9:30AM we had only six people at the track.  By 10:00AM we had seven people so we decided to call it off.  After 10:00AM a few more people arrived such that we could have raced afterall....

This coming Sunday Sept 17 will be our last chance for outdoor racing this year.  Please post here if you can make it so we can decide well in advance if it will happen or not.

So far the weather is not looking great, but we'll keep an eye on it.

Here is the list of confirmed people so far, based on people I talked to last week:

Blake
Carter (will be late)
Craig
Glenn
Jody (will be late)
Luke
Rob
Tom
PaulY

Please post if you'll be racing this Sunday Sept 17.

Thanks,
Blake
