VMAR is proud to present the Vancouver Touring Car Challenge - 2005.
This will be our big summer outdoor event, with trophies, prizes, and a lot of jive talking. Dates are August 27 & August 28.
Classes will be the following:
- Electric Sportsman (anything goes, since this is the beginner class)
- Electric 19 turn (Novak Brushless allowed)
- Electric Modified (no motor limit)
- 1/10 nitro sedan
Registration is only $20, $10 for additional classes.
Every person who registers gets added into the raffle. Tokyo Racing (proud sponsor of VMAR) has given us a 49cc Pocket Bike *$499 retail* and an Office Chair Racing Seat *$349 retail* to raffle off. Additional raffle tickets will be $5.
Every racer who attends will also be given a prize. Still finalizing who will be donating prizes. However it will be RC related (We wont be giving away old muffins or anything like that).
AAA mains will be in effect (sans Sportsman which will be 5 mins). Nitro A main will be 30 mins. All other nitro mains will be 20 mins.
There is a Best Western on 264th st, which is basically across the street from the track location (264th & Fraser Hwy, Langley). The pavement is fresh & new, and the back straightaway is 160ft long.
IROCC did such an excellent job in hosting a trophy race. Now VMAR would like to return the favour.
Flyer will be posted shortly.

Question on what happens to the regular club race on the weekends when other clubs are holding large organized races? Do we still run on that weekend, and if so with or without points?
Just some thoughts and comments,

I think what Doug should have said is that it would go as usual if there is somebody to run the computer, tow the trailer, etc., etc. Usually those of us that do these things tend to attend(not always) the larger races to support the other clubs as well.

Hey Chuck,
Sounds like great fun! I'll be there for sure. Let's hope that IROCC can represent in full force - just as VMAR did for our race!
If any IROCCers need a 19T motor, I've got an extra one that I could lend out for this race.
Hey Chuck, I know the official race flyer is not yet available, but some of the things we'll need to know are:
Friday practice? If so, what time frame?
Schedule for Saturday morning. Practice, first qualifier, etc....
Schedule for Sunday afternoon. What ferry will we be looking at?
Thanks,
Blake

I am taking the friday off of work to head to a couple of the hobby shops that afternoon and then hopefully practice that evening if there is any.

Hi Blake. Just waiting for confirmation from a few potential advertisers.
Anyways, here's the info.
Unfortunatlely there will be no practice on Friday, as the lot will be used, and probably full of cars. Track will be up and ready on Saturday morning. I'm aiming at setting up the track at 7am. It usually takes 20-30 mins. But if manpower is available, it can be done much quicker. AC power will be available, but is limited (1 outlet). One of our club members has a genrator, but it might not be enough for everyone to charge off of. If anyone feels the need, there is a Home Depot 10 mins away.
On Sunday, there will be a final round of qualifiers. We usually run an additional round of qualifiers for the electrics, to comphensate for the fact that nitro guys run for 20-30 mins. So electrics can potentially get 2 quals on Sunday. Plan is to start up at 8am, and begin mains at 1. If all goes well, we should all be outta there by 5 or 6.
I have contacted Best Western. Call them up as soon as possible to get the special "Vancouver Miniature Auto Racing" rate. number is 1-604-856-9880.
Reminder, that we are raffling off a pocket bike and a racing seat office chair. Everyone who registers to race will be entered into the raffle. For additional tickets, the cost is $5. You don't have to purchase extra raffle tickets. But it sure would be nice to tell all your friends that you got a pocket bike for 5 bux
Also note that those who wish to run in sportsman class do not require a 19 turn. It's basically anything goes (from stock motors to a Hacker C50). More of a fun class for beginners and people who are relatively new to racing and not comfortable with racing in the competetive 19 turn class.
Look forward to seeing you all there.
Chuck

While I don't want to speak for the event organizers, normally everyone is always encouraged to go to these sorts of events. As always, the more the merrier!

VMAR comes through once again.
Due to popular demand, we will be holding a stock class as well. AAA mains will be run in stock, as per 19t & Modified. All racers are more than welcome to participate in more than one class. Just make sure to manage your time wisely when running multiple classes.
See you all at the race!

I think so - that way I can run it in both the Sportsman and Mod.... I'm just trying to get as much wheel time as I can.... our Speed Weekend really helped improve my driving (although you wouldn't know it during the races
)

I thought about running Nitro - we'll see how I manage here the next two weeks.... last week was my first time on the track and the car was all buggered up. I think I've (I should say Blake since he spent all the time with me on Tuesday) got it all set up now. I got my new servo in as well so I'll install that today.... I just don't want to screw up anyone's race

For Modified, I'm running my Novak brushless at a final ratio between 5.5 and 6.0
It gets pretty darn hot, but it is able to keep up with the 9 turns. I've added a TC4 fan on top of my ESC, and that's allowed me to get 6-8 mins before thermal shut down.

Wow - I'm running 7.17 on mine... I guess I can gear up a LOT then. I'm running 66/23 and 2.5 on the diffs (TC4) - I could be running 28 to 30 instead of 23!

Try a smaller spur gear, if you can. It'll give you less rotating mass, as you wont be increasing the size of your pinion.
Be sure that your ESC gets some cooling though. If it doesn't you're going to thermal out after a few hot laps.
Nothing worse than thermaling out on a straight away - I know 1st hand

66 is the smallest I could find for the TC4 - what are you running on yours?

Hey Guys,
Glad to see that there's some IROCC'ers coming over for the big show!
I'd like to run in stock at the VTCC, so hopefully there's some stiff competition coming over to kick some butt.
We've had tons of interest, so we'd like to get some pre-registration started so that it's not quite so hectic on the actual day of the event.
If you wish to pre-register, please e-mail
admin@vmar.ca
with the following details:
Classes you wish to run
Radio Frequency
Personal Transponder #
Contact Address and Phone Number
We'll definitely accept entries on the day of the race as well, but as you know, this gives us a bit of a head start on the actual day.
We hope to see you all out there on the 27th. This should be a great race!

At this point in time, I am planning on joining everyone in Vancouver this weekend.
Since Daryl and I will both be bringing pickup trucks, if you have racing junk you need brought over, we can haul it.
I'll be leaving directly from work on Friday, so if you want me to bring it, you'll have to get it to me Thursday evening at the latest. I don't know Daryl's plans.
As far as classes go, I'm planning on running stock and 19 turn.
