Speed Weekend 2022 Recap Part 1
IROCC's Speed Weekend 2022 is in the books and it was an amazing event!  This was the first year the city permitted the event since 2019 so it was extra special to be back on track.  Huge thank you to all the racers that attended.  The support we received from the RRR club was nothing short of exceptional, and it really made the race.  I saw a lot of impressive racing at all levels, and even more important, a lot of smiling faces.  I'll highlight a few moments in Part 2.

Sponsors
Our event sponsors stepped up in a big way to make the race even better.  Afro RC came to the table with some very generous door prizes for lucky heat winners.  Canada Hobbies donated many door prizes, and a Tamiya kit to raffle.  Gripworks RC contributed a bunch of door prizes, as did RCMaker.  Thank you so much to these organizations for your generosity!

Videos
Big thanks to John Tsang for recording video of all the mains.

Speed Weekend 2022 Recap Part 2
A few shout-outs and notable moments I witnessed at IROCC's Speed Weekend 2022 race:

-TC Stock was the deepest class as usual and provided some very tight qualifying and racing.  Congrats to Edmond Lee who emerged on top in this one with some flawless driving!  I want to highlight two local drivers who finished on the podium even with the odds against them.  Nick K took 3rd with a borrowed car, and without running asphalt for at least a year.  And Tom Y managed an impressive 2nd with used tires from 2019, and a single battery that he shared with his son Paul in the same class.  Great job from all three of these guys!

-The TC Nitro main was Craig R's pretty much from start to finish.  He has had the fastest nitro car at IROCC for the entire summer and he ran a perfect main, finishing with a comfortable two lap lead on the field.  Very well executed.  It was also great to see Rob F find a podium spot with an older chassis!

-In USGT Scale Spec it was Rob F who would not be denied the win.  This is a new class for him this year and he has been the man to beat at IROCC.  Rob's vision is not exactly 20-20 and to be frank, it's impressive that he's even able make it around the track, much less win races.

-The TC Stock C1 main showcased one of the best last corner passes and photo finishes we've ever seen at IROCC.  Dan P and Rob M gave us a memorable moment that you can watch below if you like.  Perhaps even better than the pass itself was the reaction from Rob on the drivers stand afterward.  He had every right to be disappointed on missing the bump to the B-Mains, but instead he high fived and congratulated Dan on the feat.  Classy to say the least, thanks Rob!

-Huge shout-out to Brian Ashmore for being the club's fixer, in a good way, all weekend.  Whenever something needed to be done, he was on it, no questions asked.

-I want to recognize Blair S again for his work recruiting sponsors and bringing us the cool event trophies.  This is thankless work and we are very appreciative of his help.

-Finally, I'd be remiss if I did not say that our friend JH was missed at this race.  I missed his trackside BBQ and his glamping tent setup which has been a staple of summer Speed Weekends past.  But even more I missed his larger than life personality and his passion for this race.
