Fall 2021 Carpet Racing Updates
We are one week away from our first carpet race of the season on October 9th.  Please read the following updates:

  • Covid Protocols: As per Eagle Ridge and the PHO, masks are mandatory at all times inside the building unless eating/drinking.  Vaccination passports are not required unless we have more than 50 attendees.  Last Fall we averaged between 20 and 40 attendees.
  • First Race Night: Please arrive by 3:30PM on the first race night.  We will hold a driver's meeting before going inside, and we need help prepping the track equipment.  The first race will feature extended practice time, followed by two qualifiers and one main.  Future race nights will run three qualifiers and one main.
  • Tables/Chairs: Eagle Ridge has some tables for our use, but not enough for everyone.  If you have a small table, it would be wise to bring it along.  You MUST bring your own chair.
  • Payment: Cash and E-Transfers are accepted.  The E-Transfer email address is the same as last Fall.  Message me privately if you need this address.
  • TC Rubber Tires: The club will have touring car rubber tires on hand for purchase.  They are the same tire that most racers used last Fall.  These tires are not mandatory, but they are a good choice.
  • Traction Compound: SXT is the only permitted traction compound.

Important Quick Tips for Race #1
Follow these tips if you want to have fun at Race #1.  The car must be race ready, with the battery installed, before making these measurements:

Touring Car

12th Scale Car
  • Ride height should be set somewhere between 3.2mm and 3.6mm.
  • Body height should be set to 8mm.

Front Tires
  • Same applies to 12th Scale front tires.

The CA Accelerator/Kicker used in the above tire gluing video is optional.  If you don't have any, just let the glue air dry.

I will have some Accelerator at the track on the first race night.

Awesome First Carpet Race!
Thanks to everyone who made it out for our first carpet race of the season yesterday.  Track setup was super smooth, especially considering we built a new layout.  Setup will be even quicker at the next race now that the layout is chalked.

We saw lots of great racing, and also some first-race car setup issues.  Get your cars sorted as the next race will mark the start of a friendly four-race points series taking us to the end of December (one throw away).

Big thanks to Terry Yeo for making the trip from the Lower Mainland!  It was great to see him racing with us.

Next Race is Saturday, Oct 23
Driver's meeting outside at 3:45PM, doors open at 4:00PM.

12th Scale Tips
With some new racers entering the 12th Scale class, I figured it would be smart to post some videos about basic setup and maintenance.  These videos are a bit old, but they contain some really good information:

Chassis Tweak and Pivot Ball
Watch the first five mins:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ct2L3KEkE0

For the pivot ball, instead of disassembling anything, a shortcut is to loosen the rear pivot, hold the car by the rear pod with the car pointing down at the ground.  Then shake the car around to let things settle, and gently retighten the pivot ball.

Ride Height, Droop, Tweak
First five minutes:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gq00eXAkwOo
(aim for 3.6mm ride height for our track)

Check Front Suspension and Rear Tires
Second half of video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gq00eXAkwOo

Differential
Does not apply if you're using a spool rear axle.

Good day!

I have looked here and on FB and I could not find out if we run the spec 1/2th scale tire or is it open?

Thanks, Neil.

Hi Neil,

Technically it's open, but the spec purple stripe tire is preferred.

Club racing this Saturday October 23rd
This Saturday evening is our next club race.  Doors open at 4:00pm and track setup starts at 4:10pm.  All local racers are expected to help with track setup (reasonable exceptions are fine).

Registration and a quick drivers meeting will take place outside at 3:45pm, before we enter the building.

We will run a full race program with three qualifiers followed by the mains.

This race marks the start of a short 4-race points series (one throw out) taking us to the end of December.

See you there!

Great Club Race!
Thanks to everyone who attended last night's club race.  We had another great turnout and lots of fun racing.  Big thanks to Jesse for making the trip from the Lower Mainland again!  Most racers were ready for their races which helped the race program go smoothly.

Jarrod continues to impress in 12th Scale, while Ed M is knocking on the door of the top TC drivers.  Also, shoutout to Mike M for becoming a factor at the top of the 12th Scale board.

Next Race is in FOUR weeks
The next race is Saturday December 4th.

The arena is not available until 6:00pm on those four nights.  We'll be running only two rounds of qualifying, and mains.  We must be out by 11:00pm.
