Fall 2021 Carpet Racing Updates
We are one week away from our first carpet race of the season on October 9th.  Please read the following updates:

  • Covid Protocols: As per Eagle Ridge and the PHO, masks are mandatory at all times inside the building unless eating/drinking.  Vaccination passports are not required unless we have more than 50 attendees.  Last Fall we averaged between 20 and 40 attendees.

  • First Race Night: Please arrive by 3:30PM on the first race night.  We will hold a driver's meeting before going inside, and we need help prepping the track equipment.  The first race will feature extended practice time, followed by two qualifiers and one main.  Future race nights will run three qualifiers and one main.

  • Tables/Chairs: Eagle Ridge has some tables for our use, but not enough for everyone.  If you have a small table, it would be wise to bring it along.  You MUST bring your own chair.

  • Payment: Cash and E-Transfers are accepted.  The E-Transfer email address is the same as last Fall.  Message me privately if you need this address.

  • TC Rubber Tires: The club will have touring car rubber tires on hand for purchase.  They are the same tire that most racers used last Fall.  These tires are not mandatory, but they are a good choice.

  • Traction Compound: SXT is the only permitted traction compound.

Important Quick Tips for Race #1
Follow these tips if you want to have fun at Race #1.  The car must be race ready, with the battery installed, before making these measurements:

Touring Car

12th Scale Car
  • Ride height should be set somewhere between 3.2mm and 3.6mm.
  • Body height should be set to 8mm.

Front Tires
  • Same applies to 12th Scale front tires.

The CA Accelerator/Kicker used in the above tire gluing video is optional.  If you don't have any, just let the glue air dry.

I will have some Accelerator at the track on the first race night.

Awesome First Carpet Race!
Thanks to everyone who made it out for our first carpet race of the season yesterday.  Track setup was super smooth, especially considering we built a new layout.  Setup will be even quicker at the next race now that the layout is chalked.

We saw lots of great racing, and also some first-race car setup issues.  Get your cars sorted as the next race will mark the start of a friendly four-race points series taking us to the end of December (one throw away).

Big thanks to Terry Yeo for making the trip from the Lower Mainland!  It was great to see him racing with us.

Next Race is Saturday, Oct 23
Driver's meeting outside at 3:45PM, doors open at 4:00PM.

12th Scale Tips
With some new racers entering the 12th Scale class, I figured it would be smart to post some videos about basic setup and maintenance.  These videos are a bit old, but they contain some really good information:

Chassis Tweak and Pivot Ball
Watch the first five mins:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ct2L3KEkE0

For the pivot ball, instead of disassembling anything, a shortcut is to loosen the rear pivot, hold the car by the rear pod with the car pointing down at the ground.  Then shake the car around to let things settle, and gently retighten the pivot ball.

Ride Height, Droop, Tweak
First five minutes:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gq00eXAkwOo
(aim for 3.6mm ride height for our track)

Check Front Suspension and Rear Tires
Second half of video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gq00eXAkwOo

Differential
Does not apply if you're using a spool rear axle.

Hi Neil,

Technically it's open, but the spec purple stripe tire is preferred.

Fun Race Night!
Thanks to everyone who attended last night's club race.  With a smaller turnout we had more time for practice and a more laid back evening.

A few of us were showing some rust after a four week break, but others turned in some of their best performances this season.  Gorden, Joe, Mike, Blair, Jeff, and Brian all ran some of their best paces this season at various points throughout the night.

Setup and teardown were quick and smooth even with a smaller group.

Next Race is Saturday, Dec 18
Driver's meeting outside at 3:45PM, doors open at 4:00PM.

Hi all,

A few people have asked if we're racing tonight.  Yes we are racing.

Eagle Ridge has not yet provided an update, but from my understanding, the only change for us is that all participants will be required to show a valid vaccine passport. This is not required tonight, but will likely be required at the next race.

Thanks,
Blake

Another Fun Race Night!
Thanks to everyone who attended last night's club race.  We had some close racing throughout the field, and once again the first heats showed some great performances.  Shout-out to Gorden, BrianB, and Jeff for some great runs in the TC B-Main including a five second victory for Gorden.  Another shout-out to Blair for his best 12th Scale performance of his short career - great driving!

It was nice to welcome back Phil and his son Matthew.  Phil hasn't missed a beat in his nine year hiatus, and Matthew ran exceptionally well for his first ever RC race!

Next Race is Saturday, Jan 1

Great First Club Race Of 2022!
Thanks to everyone who celebrated the new year at last night's club race.  There was lots of fun racing and more racers setting personal bests.  The group of Jeff, Aaron, Neil, and Blair were fun to watch with lots of close finishes.  Our youngest racers continue to get faster and faster including Paul, Wyatt, Matthew, and Griffin.  Also, shout out to Corey and Sean who had their 12th Scale programs in top form both running their best paces of the season!  Even some of the "Original Six" racers turned in their best performances with both Craig and Daryl running very quick paces.

Fun Race Night!
Thanks to everyone who attended last night's club race.  It was a really fun night even with the shorter time block.  Racing was really clean and several drivers ran some personal best times including Carter, Jeff, and Jack.

Also shout out to Dan and Corey for making the bump to the TC A-Main.  Solid efforts there!

Hard luck award goes to Phil whose motor self destructed in the pits just prior to his main.

Excellent Race Night!
Thanks to everyone who attended last night's club race.  It was another fun night where a lot happened in a short amount of time.  Some new and old faces graced the driver's stand:

Shawn Z made his racing return with his champagne gold coloured TC, while Jordan B made his IROCC racing debut with very controlled and consistent driving for a first timer!  Matt Y was onsite for his first 12th Scale racing since the early 1990's which was fun to see.

Big shout out to Neil J who was celebrating his birthday and generously donated his spare car to Allen J from Canada Hobbies.  Allen didn't disappoint with a really strong performance making the bump-up to the TC A-Main!

The story of the night definitely goes to Brian A, Tom Y, and Dalyn S.  Showing off for his older brother, Tom took down TQ honors in 12th Scale, while Brian set a career effort qualifying 2nd overall.  And although it was Dalyn who took the win in the main, it was a phenomenal race from all three of these guys finishing within a few feet of each other.  Congrats to all!

Another Great Race Night!
Thanks to everyone who attended Saturday's club race.  Racing was tight as usual, but there are some drivers in the middle-pack range that are over driving a bit.  You probably know who you are and you will go faster if you rein it in slightly.

It was great to see Nick K and Calvin G back on the track after some time off!  Also, shout out to Carter H for an awesome performance in qualifying this week!

Fun Race Night!
Thanks to everyone who attended Saturday's club race.  We saw great racing with lots of really clean runs across the board.  There were a couple of notable on-track passes that stood out:

Avery B made an aggressive but legit muscle pass on Craig in the TC A-Main which was fun to watch.  Unfortunately he gave it right back later in the lap!

Adam B dug into his archive of racing tricks and got Dan P all crossed up enough to make a clean pass on the outside.  Unorthodox, but it worked!

Teardown was done in record time, 23 minutes.  That is very impressive to completely pack away a full size four roll track.

Next Race is Saturday Mar 26 ** 4:00PM Start **
The next race is Saturday Mar 26th at our original start time of 4:00PM.  We'll be running the full program with practice, three qualifiers, and mains.  This * might * be our final indoor race of the season.  We have asked for two additional dates in April but Eagle Ridge has not finalized their April schedule yet.

Fun Race Night!
Thanks to everyone who attended last Saturday's club race.  We saw some good racing and some strong performances.  Ed M and Alex M both ran really well after being away for a couple months, and Mateo B took his carpet racing game to a new level with some fantastic driving!  Phil C continued his quest back to peak performance with a strong 3rd place finish in TC - keep it up!  Dalyn S was the man to beat in 12th Scale, and Carter H turned in another excellent performance in the main!

Track Teardown
Two weeks removed from a record 23 minute teardown, we went backward this week.  We saw lots of people hanging out in the pits and not contributing.  All racers must assist in track teardown unless you work early Sunday morning and have an arrangement with the club.

Next Race is Saturday, April 9

Close Racing!
Thanks to everyone who attended last Saturday's club race.  We saw some really tight qualifying in TC, with several drivers qualifying within a couple seconds of each other!  Craig R was a little too fast for everyone else though, and he secured the TQ and win.  In 12th Scale, Brian A took TQ honors with a flawless run in the second round which held up.  Sean B took his program to a new level with a strong B-Main victory securing a bump to the A-Main.

Track teardown returned to its winning ways with a quick and efficient effort, including some A-caliber carpet rolling from Ed M and Brian A.

Carpet Season is in the Books
Thanks to everyone who attended last Saturday's club race.  We saw some extremely tight qualifying in both TC and 12th Scale.  Mr. Consistency Glenn A narrowly took TQ honors in TC Stock and he followed it up with a tone-to-tone victory in the main, even with Brian A on his rear bumper for much of the main.  Nick K managed to TQ 12th Stock which was nice to see, but Brian A took the win in the main after both Nick and Tom Y ran into a little trouble.  All three cars finished within a two second window!

This marks the end of our 2021/2022 indoor carpet racing season.  Thanks to all racers that participated this season!  See you all on the asphalt for summer racing, starting on Sunday May 29th.
