General Discussion / Summer Racing 2024 In Question
Last post by Blake - March 15, 2024, 07:33:25 PM
Hi all,

We found out today that IROCC's 2024 Summer racing program is in question.  Colwood is building a bridge for the Galloping Goose trail to cross over the Island Highway and our parking lot is going to be used as a staging area.  This is a surprise as we were given a verbal "ok" back in January, and then got this news today.

So, after roughly 20 years, the search for a new parking lot begins.  We're calling on all club members to keep their eyes open for possible opportunities.  The current lot is about 300' x 60' (pits included) which is about the minimum size required.  A new location would need smooth asphalt, be away from homes, and be located in the Colwood/View Royal/Westshore areas ideally.

If you know of any opportunities, please do the legwork to find who is in charge and get their contact info.  We can follow up from there.

Thanks,
Blake

Great Club Race!
Thanks to everyone who made it out for racing on Saturday.  We had a good turnout and lots of good racing.

Our novices were strong once again, and it would be Dominic M and Avelyn C taking the bump ups to the next main with super clean runs.

Shawn Z had a good night, eventually making it into the A-Main again.  Great work Shawn!

Congrats to Avery B for taking the win in TC on this night.  He got it done from the 5th position on the grid which was impressive.

In 12th Scale, Shane A had a great run in the B-Main which was likely a personal best.  Keep it up Shane!

Good luck to all IROCC racers attending the Kamloops Mid Winter Challenge next weekend!

Next Race is Saturday Mar 23

Fun Club Race!
Thanks to everyone who made it out for racing on Saturday.  Setup and teardown were very smooth.  We had a lighter turnout which made for a more laid-back schedule and some extra practice.

Shoutout to Dominic M in the Novice main for running his best run in his short career.  Dominic ran super clean and managed to turn 18 laps which was very impressive!

Ryan P was back for his first race with his own car and did really well.  He just concentrated on clean laps and it paid off with some really good runs.

Carter H, Glenn A, and Sean B had some good battles in 12th Scale throughout the night.  Carter and Sean were turning slightly faster laps but Glenn's consistency gave him the edge every time.

Congrats to Dan L for hitting 37 laps for the first time.  His 12th Scale game definitely took a jump forward that night.

Big thanks to Tom Y for helping Emmett Y get one of the loaner cars sorted out between heats.  Much appreciated.

Hard luck award goes to Nick F for breaking out of both mains.  He will take solace in his Super Bowl winnings though.

Next Race is Saturday Feb 24

Big Race Night!
Thanks to everyone who made it out for racing on Saturday.  We had a big turnout and a few new racers which was great to see.  The larger turnout caused us to run a little late but we'll get that cleaned up next time.

Big thank you to Ryan W and Nospoom S for joining us from Metro Vancouver for the night.  It's always fun to race with these guys!

Shoutout to Craig R and Dan L for getting Jes M back on track after a small ESC fire.  Jes' night would otherwise have been over if it had not been for these guys making the effort.

Ryan Patterson ran the club car for his first IROCC club race since the 80s/90s era.  He did really well out there with the fragile loaner, especially given his time away from RC!

Dayn H and Bob M entered the 12th Scale class for their first time and both of them ran very quick and clean.  Ultimately they would both finish in the middle of the B-Main which was impressive!

Brodie B had a great night, improving each round with his 12th Scale car.  He hit 26 laps in the C-Main which was a record.  Nice work Brodie!

At the top of 12th Scale, Dalyn S was a beast with one of the fastest and most consistent qualifiers we've seen in recent memory.  See the attached picture as a model of consistent lap times, especially in 1S where the battery fade is against you.  Note that this run was about two seconds slower than Craig R's run from a couple weeks ago, but I can tell Dalyn's Top 5/10/15 numbers are a club record without even checking the database.

Thank you to Sean B and Tom Y for running the computer for much of the night; it is a thankless volunteer position.

Next Race is Saturday Feb 10
Doors open at 4:00PM.  We will run a full race program with three qualifiers followed by the mains.
