First Club Race This Saturday October 7th
This Saturday evening is our first indoor club race.  Doors open at 4:00pm and track setup starts at 4:10pm.  All local racers are expected to help with track setup (reasonable exceptions are fine).

Important Quick Tips for Race #1
Follow these tips if you want to have fun at Race #1.  The car must be race ready, with the battery installed, before making these measurements:

Touring Car

12th Scale Car
  • Ride height should be set somewhere between 3.4mm and 3.8mm.
  • Body height should be set to 8mm.

Front Tires
  • Same applies to 12th Scale front tires.

First Carpet Club Race, Saturday October 7th

Saturday October 7th evening is our first carpet club race.  Doors open at 4:00pm and track setup starts at 4:10pm.  All local racers are expected to help with track setup (reasonable exceptions are fine).  Some notes:

  • New Track Setup: We'll be building a new track layout for the first night which will take extra time.  We'll then run an extended practice session, followed by two qualifiers and one main.  Future race nights will run three qualifiers and one main.

  • Formula 1 at the first race: The shorter race program on night #1 will allow us to run Formula 1 if there are enough cars.  Beyond that, we'll only have time to run it at future races if the turnouts are low.

  • Tables/Chairs: Eagle Ridge has some tables for our use, but not enough for everyone.  If you have a small table, it would be wise to bring it along.  You MUST bring your own chair.

  • Payment: Cash and E-Transfers are accepted.

  • TC Rubber Tires: The club will have touring car rubber tires on hand for purchase.  They are the same tires that most racers have used the last few years.  These tires are not mandatory, but they are a good choice.

  • Traction Compound: SXT is the only permitted traction compound.

Summer 2023 Is In The Books!
Yesterday marked the last scheduled raceday for IROCC's summer race season.  We didn't quite have enough people braving the weather, but we got the van all packed up, and pulled out everything we need for carpet season.  Thanks to all that showed up to help.  And thanks to Shawn Zweers for transporting the indoor gear to the arena.

All in all, IROCC had another tremendous summer of racing in the parking lot; lots of new (and old) faces, lot of smiles and laughs, and great racing.

Special thank you to these guys that go above and beyond every week, outside of club hours:

Craig Roberts: Craig stores, upkeeps, and delivers the club van every single week, while also coning off the parking lot the day before.

Neil Johnson: Neil shows up early every raceday to blow off the parking lot so it's ready for track setup.

Brian Ashmore: Brian handles race registration and tire sales every week.

And of course, huge thank you to all club members who have worked to improve the club, whether it be building/maintaining infrastructure, assisting new racers, or handling various administrative tasks.  Remember, IROCC is your club.  No one is getting paid, and all income goes directly into the club bank account.

Fall Carpet Season Starts Saturday Oct 7
Familiarize yourself with the info in the pinned "Winter Racing 2023/2024" thread/post.  More info to come this week.

Club Racing Tomorrow Sunday Sept 24, 2023

We will attempt to club race tomorrow despite the iffy weather forecast. Please meet at the track before 9:30am like usual.

If we cannot race, we will be unloading the PA and Computer from the van.  We will need a couple people to take some items home until the first indoor race.

Another Fun Club Day!
Thanks to everyone who made it out for our club race yesterday.  We had a good turnout again and lots of close racing.

Setup was crazy fast at about 18 minutes.  This gave us lots of practice time before racing began.

It was nice to see Shawn Z back racing after missing most of the summer season.  He got back up to speed very quickly.

Shoutout to Neil J and Paul Y for making the bump-ups to the TC Stock B-Main.  Both drivers had great race days!

Avery B would be the racer to beat in TC Stock all day, eventually TQing and taking the win in the main.  Dalyn S and Tom Y had really strong mains, moving forward multiple positions and making the podium.  Tom put down a couple of awesome clean passes in the main to grab 3rd overall.

Honourable mention to Adam B who started 3rd overall on the grid with some nice runs in qualifying.  Unfortunately his car fell off the pace in the middle of the main with some sort of battery issue.

Sean B and Dan L set personal bests in Nitro which was awesome to see.  And, of course Sean's motor would give up just after running its strongest laps.  Welcome to nitro!

Once again, Rob would be the quickest car in USGT briefly flirting with a 24 lap run in the main!

Final Summer Race is Sunday, Sept 24th
Our final summer club race is next Sunday, Sept 24th if weather allows.

Awesome Club Day!
Thanks to everyone who made it out for our club race yesterday.  We had a pretty big turnout, especially this late in the season.  We enjoyed lots of good racing, and an IROCC first in one of the mains:

First, big thank-you to Dan L and Adam B for filling in for Craig R, getting the van to the track, and doing the sugar spray.  Craig always handles this stuff without complaint, so it's nice to have some other options while he's on racing vacation.

The TC Stock A-Main was an IROCC first.  Ryan Welch, Brian A, and Tom Y put on a great show for the entire five minutes, never separated by more than 10-20 feet.  They ran in qualifying order for the entire race, and on the last corner of the last lap Brian attempted a pass on Tiny entering the straight.  Tiny's car slipped a little which allowed Brian to get along side and they drag raced to the line.  It was hard to tell who won, and the computer didn't know either, declaring it a tie with both racers finishing with the exact same time!  Great finish!

Big shoutout to Samson Li for making the trip over from the Lower Mainland for his first race at IROCC.  Samson did really well in both TC Stock and USGT Scale Spec, making the B-Main in TC and finishing 2nd overall in USGT!

Jack F and Shawn L did really well this week with some very close battles throughout the day.  It must have been the Italian paint scheme on Jack's car....  Keep it up guys!

It was awesome to see Sue L back racing again after a 10+ year hiatus.  She improved each and every run which was awesome to see.  Good on Dan L for maintaining a full family fleet of cars!

Finally, congrats to Carter H for taking the win in Nitro TC, surviving a busy nine car field!  All nitro drivers did really well given the busy track.

Next Race is Sunday, Sept 17th

I'm expecting Novice is intended to be a TC chassis?

Yes although novices can run in the 12th Scale class as well.  They will be pre-sorted into an appropriate heat.
