Club racing this Sunday June 23, 2024

We are club racing this Sunday June 23rd.  If you paid for racing last Sunday, it will be carried forward.  We'll be running a full race program with three qualifiers, and mains.

Track setup will begin at 9:30am.  All racers are expected to help with track setup.

Note that we will NOT be racing the following Sunday June 30th (Canada Day long weekend).

Club racing this Sunday June 16, 2024

We are club racing this Sunday June 16th.  Yes this is Father's Day but the majority of drivers voted to race.  We'll be running a full race program with three qualifiers, and mains.

Track setup will begin at 9:30am.  All racers are expected to help with track setup.

Currently the weather forecast is a little iffy.  It would be great if someone in the area could post an update on Sunday morning.

Race Calendar and Fee Structure, Summer 2024

The Summer 2024 race calendar will unfortunately be very dynamic.  Currently we have these dates for June:

June 16       Club Race
June 23       Club Race
June 30       No racing, Canada Day long weekend

We hope to secure some dates in July as we get closer to the end of June.  Please stay tuned.


Race fees and membership fees are increasing marginally to help position IROCC in a financially sustainable place amid a lot of increasing club costs.  Note that all kids/students pricing remains unchanged from last year.

Race Fees, Park and Ride:
1st Class: $20  (Kids/Students $10 flat rate)
2nd Class: $5

Summer Club Membership: Adults $30, Kids $10, Family $40

Race Fees, John Stubbs School:
1st Class: $25  (Kids/Students $10 flat rate)
2nd Class: $5

IROCC is a non-commercial club.  Everyone pays and everything goes back into the club (liability insurance, truck, track materials, generators, computers, PA, etc...)  If you would like to inquire about our finances please speak with us.

Awesome Summer Opener!
Thanks to everyone who made it out for our first summer club race on Sunday.  The weather finally cooperated and we had a great day of racing.

Huge shoutout to Brian B and Neil J for doing the bulk of the track cleanup!  These guys showed up early and removed most of the debris for us.  It paid off with a super nice clean racing surface with impressive traction after Craig R put down the sugar water.

As usual TC Stock 21.5 was quite competitive at all levels, with Craig R taking the overall win.  Adam B, Avery B, Dan L, and Tom Y also had the pace throughout the day and treated us to some thrilling racing.  The Q1 run between Adam and Tom was awesome to watch, with multiple position changes over the last few laps.  It was 100% clean racing and you could hear the spectators reacting to strong driving.

Brodie B went next level and ran some really clean runs qualifying himself in the middle of the C-Main.  Great work Brodie!

Dale S made his IROCC debut with an entry level Yokomo car.  He did super well for his first onroad race!  New racers may want to visit his pit to take a look at a very inexpensive way to get started in onroad racing.


Next Race is this Sunday, June 16
Although we don't normally race on Father's Day, we are going to race this Father's Day June 16, 2024.  We're going to attempt to take advantage of the Park and Ride availability while we can.  We'll be running a full race program with three qualifiers, and mains.

Fun Final Race Night
Thanks to everyone who attended Saturday's club race.  We wrapped up our indoor season with a fun race night and lots of close battles on the track.

Big shoutout to Jack F for what was probably his best ever 12th Scale run.  In the C-Main he got to the front fairly quickly and then started to pull away from the field with consistent error-free driving.  He ended up a lap up on second place just by driving clean.  Great work Jack!

A few others peaked their 12th Scale programs on the last race night too.  Dan L, Sean B, and Shane A all had strong runs throughout the night.  And Glenn A took a Fantetti loaner car to a 4th place finish which was awesome to see.

Ultimately Craig R was untouchable in the main, although Nick F might have had the pace to keep up if he had avoided some mistakes.

In TC Nick F was the fastest in qualifying and he and Blake fought to the death in the main in a battle of good vs evil.  Fun racing.

Brian B and Joe F deserve a mention here.  I know a lot of different people have been helping with the awkward storage of our gear.  But Brian and Joe have been at the center of this effort EVERY SINGLE WEEK for two years.  Thank goodness they're fit and strong because it's a really tough job to manhandle the carpet and scaffolding into the storage area.  Huge thank you Brian and Joe - it is very much appreciated!


Summer Season begins Sunday May 26
The Summer asphalt season begins on Sunday May 26th.  Please stay tuned for details on location, and schedule.  Currently everything is still somewhat fluid.

Final indoor club race this Saturday April 27th
This Saturday evening is our final club race of the indoor season.  Doors open at 4:00pm and track setup starts at 4:10pm.  All local racers are expected to help with track setup (reasonable exceptions are fine).

We will run a full race program with three qualifiers followed by the mains.  Make sure your cars are ready to go.

Summer Track Equipment
If anyone has room to store a PA speaker or two, and/or the rubber mats, that would be great.  We will need them for summer racing.

Summer 2024 Update

IROCC has secured a new parking lot for summer racing.  It is a School District 62 school lot located 1km from the old parking lot in Colwood and it is a similar size.  Unfortunately the rental rate and the cancellation policy are quite prohibitive and will mean a significant change to IROCC's economic model.  We are continuing to search for a more ideal solution for the club, but at least we have something secured.  Note that we are still waiting on feedback from another potential site as well.

What is the plan?
As always, the first race is scheduled for the last Sunday in May (Sunday May 26, 2024).  If the old Park and Ride is still available at that time (unlikely), we will use it.  If not, we will switch gears to the SD62 lot.

What can I expect?
Expect a fluid plan.  Race dates and race fees will be highly dependent on location and therefore a full schedule is not possible at this time.  Prepare your cars for racing and what hopefully becomes another fun summer season with IROCC.

Fun Race Night!
Thanks to everyone who made it out for racing on Saturday.  We had a smaller turnout but some really good races.  It was a fun night.

Big shoutout to Matthew C for helping fix the club car after it was broken in a qualifying heat.  Matthew wasn't too familiar with the car but managed to get it up and running in short order!  Later in the evening Craig R did a full rebuild on Brian B's 12th Scale car after he broke the rear pod plate.  Lots of good mechanic work that night!

Nick F was the racer to beat in TC this week.  He turned the best hot laps and was also one of the most consistent drivers in the class.  And Dalyn S was untouchable in 12th Scale with a really quick car and mistake free driving.  Well done again guys.

Matt S had a good night in TC.  He was super quick in the final qualifier and managed to seed 6th overall, making the A-Main directly.  Nice work Matt!

Once again, the 12th Scale B-Main ended up being the race of the night.  Daryl J and Rob F raced it out for eight straight minutes in this one, never separated by more than 20 feet.  Daryl lead for most of the run and he didn't make any mistakes.  Rob was a tick quicker but didn't push the issue and stayed patient.  In the final minute Rob managed to make a clean pass for the lead, but on the final lap of the race Daryl got him back with an aggressive but legit pass of his own.  These guys have raced together a lot over the years and this had to be one of their best performances.  Was a fun one to watch.

Final Race Night is Saturday Apr 27
Our final indoor race of the season is in three weeks, on Saturday Apr 27.  Doors open at 4:00PM.  We will run a full race program with three qualifiers followed by the mains.
