Minimum weight deviation for touring cars. (ROAR)
« on: August 14, 2009, 12:48:43 PM »
Found this on RCTECH.   Its only for one event, but its been hinted this will be the new roar weight for next year too.

The Executive committee has approved the following rules deviation recommendation from the Electric On Road Class Committee.
Rule 8.10.5.1 minimum weight for T2 Touring Car has been deviated for the Electric On Road Paved Nationals, Hobby Town USA - Frederick, Oct. 1st - 4th.

The min T2 Touring Car weight to be used for this event will be 1420 grams / 50Oz /3.125LB

I was looking at the weight for TC in the 2010 rules and it's 1420 grams.
Will we be using this as our weight this year? Nitro is the same at 1725 grams

This whole weight issue has been a problem for some people lately. I know my cars, if I take out the lead that was down the center of the car, I could only lighten mine up 20-30 grams and keep the weight balanced between the left and right side of the car.

This is also going to make stock even faster.

Now that it's time to start think about TC will we be using the new weight of 1420 rules or the old one of 1500 grams

This was brought up at the Kelowna Race this weekend where they ran the 1500g weight. For the most part everyone was in favor of moving to 1420g, eliminating the need for excessive lead weights. Also OGR has been following the ROAR weight since January as well as the WCICS series. There was quite a bit of talk to the Alberta and Saskatchewan drivers Hyping Your Speed Weekend Race and intrest was shown.....they also follow the ROAR weight.

Cool, thanks for the info Ryan; good stuff.

It is very likely that we'll adopt the new 1420g standard this year.  Most/all of the top tier TC drivers in our club have converted to LiPo.  Some of the lower tier drivers have not, but an 80g difference is not what makes the difference in the lower heats.

Also, thanks for hyping our summer race!  Much appreciated!  Now that the indoor season has concluded, you can expect an official announcement of Speed Weekend in the very near future.

Thanks again,
Blake

Since most will be setting up their cars is the new weight going to be 1420g ?

Make your cars 1420g as per ROAR's rule.

If someone with a NiMH pack can prove to me that they lost a race for no other reason than weight, then we will deal with it at that time.  As mentioned above however, 80g comes into play only after you make zero mistakes with your driving.

Lowering the weight is nothing but a good thing.    Lighter cars re-act faster.

For Cameron, it also means he shouldnt break as many parts with a lower momentum when smacking the boards!

Andrew you are as fast as blake and phil. You just need to tighten up your lines a bit more and remember to blink during the race. :'(

After setting my car up for the 1420g weight. I changed the wheels to a new set only to find out that
the car was now 1434g. So just make sure to put your lightest wheels on the car, Or you might find that
your car is now under weight with different wheels
