Well aware. I'm trying to spark a new class this summer at VMAR. Maybe you IROCC guys could join in when you guys come visit if the class takes off. You guys run some tight racing and I like it.
If I can't find a 3.2R within the next month or so, I'll probably bite the bullet and just get a GenX. I have a whole stock pile of Associated front ends that I don't want to go to waste.
For whatever reason, it has been impossible to find one of these things used now. Even RCTech is dry. Jody, if you're reading this, maybe you can hook me up with something.
Cheers, J
Well, you're asking for one particular model.
There's lots of different Carpet Knives that are essentially the same; most of the differences are in the colours of the parts.
If you asked for a used Carpet Knife, you might get more action.
I'm thinking of selling mine; it saw the winners circle the most out of any 1/12 scale car this past season, but it isn't a 3.2R.

I believe the Associated front end will fit on the Gen X car. You may want to use it anyway, since the "new" (to me) Associated camber rise front end seems stronger than the original runs of the Gen X front end. Hopefully they'll be stronger by next indoor season; they seem to break as often as the "old" style Associated front end (both 2 and 3 bolt; the week spot wasn't the mount on the old style front end).
In regards to the strength of the new front end...never use the supplied aluminum spacers, only use graphite ride height shim, I used this front end with this configuration and never broke once in 18 club races and broke 3 OLD front ends in 4 club races. I have seen the front end broken in the Gen-X but always with the aluminium spacers. Based on this I believe that the Gen-X front end is superior. The aluminium spacers are for when you use BIG tires.
PS: The associated stuff will fit on a Gen-X. I have a 3.2R as my spare car with a Gen-X front end on it and it has never failed me.
Contact me if you want a 3.2R or a used Gen-X
The 3.2R with Gen-X front end $150

You might want to consider something like an Associated 12L. Although the Carpet Knife is a great carpet car, it's a carpet car, not an asphalt car. It's a Carpet Knife, not an Asphalt Knife. There's a few of those cars for sale on our board as well.
I know the 12L has several 1/12 scale titles on the pavement; I'm not sure if the Carpet Knife has had much success off carpet.
Although pan cars do work great on a prepared asphalt track, it seems a shame to run a carpet car outdoors.
As far as front ends are concerned, I've never broken an arm on my Carpet Knife in the 7 or so seasons I've run it. It's the modern composite Associated plastic; much more durable than the original nylon and reinforced nylon compositions the camber rise front end has come in. A great deal has to do with the way the track is built, driver ability, and the fact I use a foam bumper. And, if you run with your body off just to make sure your car works, that's just asking for a broken arm!
