Title: Sooke and/or Victoria Locations
Post by: alexadams77 on July 17, 2007, 01:08:49 PM
I've been out here in Sooke for almost two years now and I just picked up a LST2 and was wondering where are some good places to take it?

I'm leaning more towards the Sooke area, because that's where I live, but I'd also like to know other places as well.

Are there any races or events around that I can sign up for?

sorry there is not any organized off road racing in teh greater victoria area. You just have to drive around and find a place that looks good to play.

That sucks, but I'm new at this so I don't think that I'd do very well.

Are there any restrictions on the car? (ie motor size, upgrades, etc)

i am sure someone would be able to tell you better but will try.  we run 1/10 on road with sedan body, electric or gas.

electric:
rubber tires, 27 turn stock motor and 19 turn motor

gas:
.12 engine, foam tires

maybe someone can add more to this.

That's right Ken and our batteries are limited to 4300 mAh NiCd/NiMh packs.

For bashing there are lots of good spots.  One of my favorites is the (now old) BMX track - or the "Parts Graveyard" as its more commonly known as.  Lochside School in Broadmead is good - nice for crawling too.  The old wreckers by the Co-op gas station on Millstream near Home Depot is awesome - lots of giant dirt piles, etc.

Off road bashing is fun but it doesn't hold a candle to organized on-road racing.  Come check it out on Sundays across from Wendy's  by Juan de Fuca Rec Center at the park-and-ride.

I'm actually thinking about it, I'm looking up some specs on some cars.  I hear that people recommend either TC? or XRAY T2.

TC's are good starter cars.  a large number of us run xray.

Unless you go with the newest Associated T5, most people would direct you towards a belt driven car( X-ray, Tamiya or Corally) rather than the older Associated cars which were shaft driven. The majority of us run X-rays so quite often if we break parts, then somebody else may have the part to replace the broken parts.
Come on out and see what is happening. We will be there this Sunday and then we miss one Sunday because of the National BMX Race and then on BC Day weekend, we are at Central Saanich Days at Centennial Park on Wallace Drive for both Saturday and Sunday.

If you can get the Xray. I have been running a TC4 so far this year, and finially got to try a Xray the other day. The difference is amazing. I dont think it has anything to do with the belt/shaft, but the suspension design on the Xray definately works better then the TC4.

Of course, when you order parts for an Xray, make sure you get your visa card limit raised, you will need the extra room.  (Xray parts are about 4 times the cost of the TC4 parts.)

Shawn.
