Title: TrakPower & Trinity 4500
Post by: Shawn68z on February 08, 2008, 05:06:58 PM
I am starting a list for a group buy from T-Bang Hobbies.

The Current Offering is:

TrakPower 4900 Lipo $105+tax
Trinity Reference 4500 Lipo $75+tax

Thats works out to be about 18% cheaper then anywhere I have seen these packs being sold. If you would like to get in on this group purchase then send me a PM, and I will add you to this list.

T-Bang website offers the TrakPower Balancer for $54+tax. I would recommand buying one for the longevity of the battery, and the safety of everyone while charging your packs.

I will talk to phil on saturday about the maxamps packs, and any other items I think would make a good addition to a group purchase.

Shawn.

Thanks matt. Did not know that Trakpower had their own saddle packs. I am sure Phil will be glad to look into those for the club.

I am in for a pack of Trinity 4500.  Might need another one if I ever some money for a pan car.  It will fit in my T2 without mods right?  Has anyone try it?  If I can remove/install the packs quickly then I will take 2.  If I need to glue it in then I would only buy one.

From what I understand you will still need to do alittle bit of grinding to make it fit on the T2.  I will try and get a trakpower and a trinity 4500 from phil in the next week or so, and make it fit my car. I am also working on a lead/steel brace that will screw into a stock T2 chasis. Should provid about 6 oz of weight, and side impact protection. I will let you know how I make out.

sweet.... let me know what you would have to do to make both of them fit.  with the trakpower, i guess i would need to use a voltage cut off?

You dont "NEED" to, but I would highly recommend it. If the voltage in the pack goes below 6V (3v each cell), then the pack should not be used again. (It will most likely explosively vent)

According to online sources, the Trinity pack is actually 24mm high, and would need more grinding then the trak power.  The problem with battery fit is the TrakPower battery is 23mm thick, same height as a Sub-C battery. But, a Sub-C battery fits into the chassis, makes its installed height about 20-21mm. The T2 Bulk head needs about 2 mm of material removed, and the battery will fit in normally.  The other issue we all currently have is to balance our cars again. The Lipo is considerably lighter then a NiMh battery, and about 9 oz of lead will need to be added to the right side of the car for proper balance, and ROAR weight requirements.

I was thinking about running TrakPower's without a LVC (low voltage cutoff), but just making sure to have the pack fully charged before going into the car. You will only draw 2000 Mah in a 5 minute race which will not be a problem for the pack. I would only worry about it when you pump up during the mains. The second race would be risky on the same pack if you dont use a LVC.

As a follow-up, we've attempted contact with the distributor on a couple of occasions but have had no word back. Trent tried them again today. Our feeling is that they may not yet have sufficient supply to meet the demand. With a fair bit of time left before the summer season we will be sure to keep you posted.
