Title: Sweet looking ride....
Post by: rcshadow on September 07, 2008, 04:37:44 PM
Check out this car, I was online researching for a new ride this year. It looks pretty sweet, they seem to have done a bit of research on the design cause the rear is quite a bit different, but the front is the same as all the other generic front ends ( good for spare parts ). I like the idea of twin flex plates and a 3 ball pivot system too the read up sounds decent. I have added a link here if you want to check it out....

Since we race 1/12 in the winter season here, maybe its time for another style of car to see if what they say about it is true at our track. One things is strange, they dont supply the lubricants for the shock or the tubes, but is does come with stainless steel screws. They also make a 1/10 style car pretty much exactly like the 1/12. Ok everyone now is the time to pick it apart, lol....

It looks like the newer version of the car leonard raced last year.

Yep - and I believe he was going through L-Plates at great speed. Looks cool, though.

He seemed to have a problem with the hockey sticks mostly due to a broken lower pod plate.  Apparently the first version of that had a weak spot just like older Carpet Knives.

Seems like a pretty cool car -- I was thinking about one.  What scares me though is the lack of provision for tweak adjustment -- you're supposed to keep it level by rotating your tires every race and balancing the car during assembly.  Sounds like a lot more work than I'm used to!

Yes, I saw that, too, Tom. I ran that type of suspension for a year and it is fine from race to race. What I found, though, particularly on carpet, was that the car would tweak during the race itself as the outside left diameter would change. It's gradual, but I found that toward the last 20% of the race, the car would pull to one side. The Corally cars used a different sort of design with the same general conept.

Also interesting to note are the comments the guy makes whenever he pitches his car.  When I first drove a Carpet Knife car, I found it had way more corner speed than my T-plate car, and his comments make it sound as though T-plate cars carry more corner speed than a Carpet Knife.

I never understood that one myself.

Hey, Tom.

I've head that claim for asphalt but not for carpet. I think the premise of the argument was the purported mechanical advantage of the t-plate vice a link setup.

Maybe this car tries to get the best of both worlds but has to try to innovate in other design elements to compensate both positive and negative. Just a thought.
