Title: Any Chance for Pro10?
Post by: RC51 on December 01, 2008, 03:58:39 PM
Hi, Exec.

With the declining attendance as we approach the Christmas period, any chance that we can have a Pro10 rcae night with wide lanes etc suitable for the cars? It seems that everyone there has a Pro10 if memory serves, so I thought I'd ask. We might be able to pull Mick out for this one, too!

I'm also wondering if we might some day try one of those big 1:12 (wide open) tracks that some of the other clubs race. No biggie. I've only ever raced 1:12 on one just once (Kelowna) and it was 4 runs then home again and I wanted more. Just something different, that's all. Our system, layout and tracvks are great, so don't get me wrong.

No worries - I just thought that if numbers are low that we might try something a little different.

it sounds like it would be a lot of fun.....

I was also wondering it we would be taking Dec 20th and the 27th off as Christmas break?

I think we should be taking Dec.20 & 27 off for sure. I, for one, will not be there on those nights and I am sure there are many others that will not be able to make those nights. Blake and I discussed it last Sat. but we will have a general discussion this Sat. Another point for discussion this Sat. will be whether to increase race fees back to $15. or to drop the door prizes except for the pizza certificate which is donated by Boston Pizza and doesn't cost the club anything.

We'll likely be forced to take Dec 20/27 off as I think the B&G club is shutdown after Friday the 19th.  That's what they've told me in previous years anyway.

As for Pro10, I would think it would be doable to add one or two heats of this class on a selected race night.  With the three heats of 12th we've been running lately, there seems to be about 15 mins extra each round.  So, technically we could fit up to two 5-min Pro10 heats in there.  If we drop as low as 14 racers toward Christmas, then we'll have even more time since we'll be down to two heats.

As for layout on a Pro10 night, you'll have to become Craig's best friend to get him to work out a layout with 7' - 8' lanes....  7' x 5 lanes fit into 36' but then you have an uneven number of lanes so I'm not sure a complete layout will "fit" there.  But if anyone can work it, Craig's your man.

Also, just as a side note:

I wouldn't say attendance has been declining.  Here's the trend this winter:
19, 25, 20, 19, 20, 20

It's more like the season's numbers are simply down for the season as a whole.  After Speed Weekend 2008 our numbers dropped big time, and they have not rebounded.

But anyway, adding Pro10 for a night somewhere in Dec is still probably not a bad idea.

Hey if were going with this.  is this be included as an extra fee.  like the summer months.  this would be great at bringing extra rev into the mix.

The other question would be since were addding a heat of pro 10 maybe we could add a heat of touring too.  lol ( just joking we could run them all together.)

Since it's just for fun something like $5.00 would be alright I would hope.

I suspect there would be more Pro10 than the track could handle in a single heat, Andrew. Just a thought although running TC stock rubber on carpet would be appealing, too.

TC?  Now you're pushing it!  With those sleds on the track Mick will never come out again!

Seriously though, based on the three-heat turnout so far this winter, we can afford an extra heat (maybe two) of a five minute class.  I would say Pro10 would be your best choice so that we don't have to sacrifice the layout entirely with 10' lanes.  I'd also say that it should be tried once, to see how feasible it is.  Then we could decide if we wanted to do it once a month or something.

Sounds like a plan to me, Dawg! Anyone bringing them out this weekend for practice?

We should not need the track to be too wide as the Big Chill only had a wide straight away
and a large sweeper on the end the rest was about the same size as what we run now.
And 6 cars were ok if you knew were to pass.

Ouch.. Thats harsh!

I think we going to the wronge direction with this. Why put a bigger car on a small track, I would rather see the Associated 18R's come out for a race or two.

actully,  a 18 scale class would be cool.  I know a couple of clubs down home run them.  would be a great and cheap alternative to biginners.

The point of my post is that 95, if not 100% of the current 1/12 racers have or have access to a Pro10 that could also be raced as a scaled alternative without much effort in terms of transition for a night. It seems that the effort would be on track design which I am sure can be addressed, and the overall impact would be very manageable. Although the 18R looked like far too much fun and awesome when Glenn and Doug were out there, a minority own them compared with Pro10. If it works, great, if not, see you in between heats!

Phil you are right about the fact that most already have Pro 10's.  with that in mind you are also correct in saying it would be way more realistic to go with the pro 10 approach for a second class since our numbers are down, then going with a totally different class altogether.

hey I'm all for going with pro 10's running.  Even though I don't plan on running mine.

Welll see ya on sat night.  C main here I come
