IROCC Speed Weekend 2009 Summer Touring Car Trophy Race
The Island Radio Operated Car Club (IROCC) in Victoria BC is pleased to announce its Speed Weekend 2009 touring car trophy race this summer. We've had great fun doing this race for the last four summers, and we're eager to do it again this year. Over the last four years we've been amazed at the level of racer support we've received from both local and out-of-town racers (107 entries last year, and 105 the year before!), and we hope that will continue again this summer!

Hotels
I've done some looking around here and the following hotel is probably the best bet. It's quite close to the track (5 minute drive) and has the cheapest rate I could find. Book your rooms via the internet so that you can get the cheap "internet rate".
Comfort Inn Victoria
101 Island Hwy
Victoria, BC

Just two weeks away!
Hey all Speed Weekend fans! We're just two weeks away from the big event and IROCC has been very busy getting everything in place.
This year we have some upgraded interior walls which I think everyone will like. We'll also be using our sugar coating process to offer unbelievable traction for both rubber and foam classes. And of course we'll be making use of RC Scoring Pro as our timing software which will be live during the morning/evening practice sessions to call your laptimes for you. Personal transponders are supported, and we'll have handout transponders for those without personals.
This year also features a new 2009 edition Speed Weekend T-Shirt courtesy of BC Shaver and Hobbies. You'll know the shirt artwork as the great work of Dr. Jody Haddow, one of our resident graphic artists. Also, continuing in our tradition of awarding prizes to all contestants, each and every racer will receive a trophy thanks to Swiftsure Cabinetry and Dekelz.com. Dekelz' very own Mick Szirmay will be unleashing his graphic genius on the awards once again this year!
July 11/12 - We hope to see you all here!

This thread is now linked from the main entry page.
I'll also make a news item for the main site.
Blake has a thread going on rctech as well:

Hey all,
Ian Buchan from Calgary is making the trip out again this year for Speed Weekend. He always comes out here on his motorcycle so it's a little tough for him to bring a generator.
I need someone with a larger generator to step-up and allow Ian to grab a few Watts.
Thanks,
Blake
Gotta love the long range forecast. Looks like we will be in super hot weather above the seasonal norm. 27 degrees in Victoria is usually 30 or so at the track! Brushless beware!

Don't worry, the Darkside will be casting a long shadow over the Pro10 cars....

... as it leaves the track after hitting my spur and blocks out the sun thereby rendering all eco-friendly solar chargers useless in your presence. Use the downforce, Mick ... use the downforce. :D

who is this Mick? And what is a darkside? dont remember seeing much of either tracks side ;)
What's that Doctor J? I couldn't hear you properly with my Pro 10 National Championship plaque blocking the sound ;)
I dusted off the old 10Lss with my special aero package.
Dont get too cozy with your plaque, i think were are crowning a new champ this year.
Professor Speed
Well with my attendance so far this season I'm certainly doing my best to give everyone a shot at the title :) There's no pressure on me, it's all on you guys.... LOL
Beware the Darkside.....
any idea what the cost of shirts are this year?

All racers will get one free shirt with their entry. Not sure what the remaining shirts will be sold for. We'll have to ask Daryl about that.

I Would like to say thanks to all involved with the running of Speed Weekend.
Another one goes down in the books as being a great race weekend.

Indeed... well done everyone!
Speed Weekend 2009 was a resounding success! We had 54 individual racers making up 95 entrants vying for bragging rites on our asphalt track this weekend. We had time for three rounds of qualifying on Saturday, and a last-chance round on Sunday morning before the mains.
Thank you so much to all the out-of-town racers that braved the ferries to join us for our big race:
Attilla, Bak Choi, Brendan Haddow, Byron Weston, Chris Ax, Dan Misko, Edward Dinter, Eli Franklin, Frank Bortolazzo, Franko Roberts, Hans Tang, Ian Buchan, Jeff Ho, John Smoothie, Ken Chan, Ken Ho, Logan Arsenault, Mike Evans, Mike Mittlestead, Nospoom S, Paul Lau,Peter Gnos, Ryan Welch, Super Mario, Tom Weston
For the fifth year in a row, the Lower Mainland crew supported us in a big way with a large contingent of racers! Also, extra special thanks to Tom Weston, Mike Evans, and Ian Buchan for joining us all the way from Calgary! And finally, it was great to see Franko up from Washington State, Dan Misko from Campbell River, and Peter Gnos all the way from Nunavut! That's some serious travelling!
See ya all again next year!

I want to personally thank the following people for their extremely generous contributions to Speed Weekend 2009. We often read out sponsor company names, but these are the people behind those companies that really deserve the thanks.
Mick Szirmay and Brian Ashmore
Once again, Mick and Brian are the reason everyone left the race with one or more awesome trophy plaques. Mick of Dekelz.com spent a huge amount of time creating the super cool graphic, printing them, and mounting them on the plaque boards. Brian of Swiftsure Cabinetry spent countless hours building over 100 plaque boards for the race. A HUGE thanks goes out to these two individuals for stepping up in the biggest way to produce such an awesome product that each and every racer received.
Nick Newroth and Jody Haddow
Nick and Jody spent most of their weekend behind the microphone. Together, these guys called probably called 90% of the races all weekend. Thanks for being the voice of Speed Weekend guys!
Phil Cady
For the fourth year in a row Phil of CLSWest paid for the tasty Subway lunch we enjoyed on Saturday! Phil, thanks so much for your extremely generous contribution!
Bruce Ellison and John Bowker
Big thanks to Bruce of kalwood web works and John of LA Tanning for their supply of free drinks all weekend! I know I was in and out of that cooler quite a few times on Saturday! Thanks guys!
Craig Roberts
When Craig told me that he was going to lay down a diagonal track for Speed Weekend, I was initially scared. I thought it might not be "accepted" by our visitors. Well, that track ended up being the coolest Speed Weekend layout to date. After the race was over I was was chatting with Mike Mittlestead and he told me that he loved the cool layout. Awesome design Craig! Even a certain Jr. Calandra would have loved that one with the "make or break" chicane section!
Track Prep Crew
Rob Fantetti and Craig Roberts are the reason IROCC enjoys such a high traction surface! With their ultra-cool sugar-water sprayer, IROCC enjoys likely the best prepared track surface of any asphalt track anywhere. Thanks guys!
