Hi all,
The Executive met last week to discuss this coming indoor season. This is what was decided:
1. We will run only 12th Scale Stock as per usual (we are open to Pro10 nights occasionally if time allows)
2. Motors must be either ROAR approved 27T brushed motors, or ROAR approved 17.5 brushless motors
3. Batteries must be either 4-cell NiMH packs or 1 cell LiPo packs
4. The weight limit for 4-cell NiMH cars will be 880g, and the weight limit for 1s LiPo cars will be 730g
Everyone will run together in the same class. The hope is that the 150g weight difference will help offset the voltage difference. Our goal is to not sub-divide our group into two separate classes as this will dilute the racing.
We will run a short (4 or 5 nights) points series in October/November at which time we'll be monitoring the two types of cars to determine if we have an imbalance. If an imbalance exists, we'll address it after the initial point series completes.
I'm sure there will be many questions, so please ask away, and we'll do the best we can to answer. I will have a more complete list of rules posted in the near future. I just wanted to give everyone a "heads up" regarding the battery options sooner than later.
I personally (and basically the entire Exec as well) will be running the 1s LiPo battery this winter. The cost of one of these packs is less than the price for 2x 4-cell packs, and we all know how nice the LiPo chemistry is to use. Yes, we will be down on voltage, but a lighter car will be much more nimble in the infield, have less tire wear, and will likely accelerate the same as a 4-cell car since the power/weight ratio will be similar.

Thanks for the update Blake. I will have a Havok 1S on pre-order tomorrow, so hopefully everyone can check it out before winter season starts. Called Novak today, and have been told they are triing to get some out the door for mid-sept, and mass distrubution for october.
I still have to bring it up though... Spec series... Mandatory Battery, ESC, and motor combination. Just my .02.
Shawn.
hope it not the same size as a GTB :-[

Hey Shawn
I'd love a spec series as you describe. However, it's basically impossible to implement since everyone already owns different ESCs, chassis, and have different spending power. Further, the hobby is in such a state of flux rate now, it would be very dangerous to commit to a standard set of equipment. Items would likely be discontinued before everyone was able to purchase them.
The idea of the initial short points series is to see what setups are comparable to others, and adjust the rules slightly to tighten up imbalances. A perfect balance will be hard to achieve, but we'll do our best.
