Title: Still fastest in Practice! LOL
Post by: haddow on September 10, 2009, 04:22:13 PM
Well I made it out to Al Ain raceway for a practice session last night before tomorrow nights points race.

I was in a session with a few youngsters weighing 80-120 lbs less than me but still laid down the fastest lap. Tomorrow night 30-50 guys will be out for the points race in the rental kart series. Not like the rentals at western speedway, these are low powered, non-shifters, but good Karts nonetheless. The track is long at 1.6 KM and the facility would blow your mind, it is like an F1 track with scoring tower, media centre panoramic restaurant on the roof, just awesome!

I will post some better pics after fridays race

1/2 hour on the full track is about $75.00, on the shorter layouts it is about 40-50.
That is Kart, driving suit, helmet gloves, instruction and your wheel has an LCD display showing your last lap and best lap and time on track. Plus saftey personal and turn marshals.

A top end italian shifter cart with big motor is 10K CDN. 1200.00/yr membership and to store it and haul it between Al Ain and Dubai for the point series and free track time each week. Some of the locals pay 4000.00 each year for membership that includes storage and hauling and complete maintanence after every run.
Next year this time I hope to get ino a used cart that has been maintained, they have a garage full so hopefully something comes up in top shape for 1/2 price. The renal Karts seem like a blast and thats with 10 HP, the shifters have 35 HP so it will seem like a rocket.

Sadly Carter isnt allowed to race until 8 but they have high highend kid Karts for rent that he will fit into by age 6 so I will have to train him that he is "8" in a couple years.
