Title: Ready to go, last race of the year...
Post by: Melbatoast on September 26, 2009, 01:32:49 PM
Well, after a lot of frustration (and attempted selling of the car) I finally have my Losi car in a state to race.  I'd at least like to run practice, if not the race, depending how miserable a driver I am.  I have a couple of questions, though.

I have yet to pick up a transponder.  Are there loaners available?

Numbers for the body - I don't think the Shaver Shop has any.  Are there some at the track?

And you may or may not know, the Losi car has a hell of a time fitting lipos.  I've had to hack a little of the case away to get them to fit - next year I'll get some that fit properly.  No problem?  I've basically just had to cut little notches in the cases.

I also picked up a used CRC 3.2R, so I'll get to try indoor even though I've missed virtually all the outdoor.

Thanks

the club has club transponders that work off an internal battery -- no wiring required.  Just cut a hole the same size as a body post into the car body, usually somewhere near the centre and somewhere near the front windshield.

You want a 190mm body with high traction ... current favourites are the Stratus, DNA and Mazda Six shells.

I would recommend asking some of the A main drivers if the notching will cause battery failure in the event of a crash.  Chances are you're fine, but better to check than have a destroyed car (or worse).

Thanks for the info.

I have a couple of bodies, I was just curious about stick on numbers.  I'm going to try an R9 body to begin with, but I've been told I probably won't like it as it's really twitchy.  I have a Speed 6 as an alternative.

I really have no choice as to notching the battery cases, and I really doubt I've compromised any structural integrity.  I'll see if I can JB Weld the notches closed if it's going to be a problem.  In fact, I probably will as it's neater.

So, show up at around 9:30 tomorrow to help with track setup?

Don't really need numbers on the outside, the transponder hole is all that is required. Wait till you get to the track to put the hole in, though. You want to be at the track by 9AM, that way you can set up a pit area before track setup starts. You will probably feel lost during track setup but there is always somebody that will tell you where help is needed.

Is there any pit table space for drop-ins like me or will I need to bring a table of some sort?

If you can, bring a small table, a little bigger than a card table so you have some space to lay stuff out, a folding camping style chair to sit on and if you have one, an extension cord if you need power for your battery charger/pit radio, etc.

I hope we see a lot of racers out for what could quite possibly be the last or second to last race of the 2009 outdoor season.

Well, the curse of the car has struck again - I broke an outdrive while I was readjusting things.  I'll see if the JB weld will take care of it, but I don't expect it to last long.  The somewhat good news is that it's on the spool, so I can really slather on the epoxy.

Argh.

Losi JRXS-R - and it's not a generic style part.

I think it'll be OK as long as I can resist screwing with it and let the JB Weld dry.

It seems OK, got the screw in without it snapping.  I'll be there.
