For all I know all you guys have been running it for a while, but as a new RS owner it has me pretty interested. Why I didn't get one of these in the first place, who knows. It's a sweet little unit.
Hotwire 4.00 and RS software 2.03 http://www.teamtekin.com/hotwire/vegas/index.html
Couple of Lambert 17.5 setups have been posted to RC Tech, too. Gearing seems huuuge, although I suppose he would be running 44mm tires or something. Still, 92-95mm rollout. 85mm sound about right for our track?

just remember that the tracks that they run on are alot bigger, more like a 10th scale track, so the gearin will be alot different..
I'll be starting out around 70mm for roll out
What are the dimensions of our track? 60 x 35-ish?
I would think its about 70ft X 36ft.
Gorden
The second setup there is for 70 x 45. He was running 42.6mm tires, so 89mm rollout. I think I'll try 80mm.
i uaually run about 83-86mm rollout..
i justed check my roll out with new tires it was at 84

what would it be if you drop 5 teeth from the pinion?
Gorden
For you folks that need to figure out your roll out, go here:

It couldn't be easier! :-)

You should figure this sort of thing out yourself.
The formula for roll-out is something you should understand.
D = tire diameter
R = rollout
P = pinion size
S = spur size
PI = ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter
Notice there are no units in the above variables. We deal in mm of roll out, so measure tire diameter in mm. If you want inches of roll-out, just measure your tires in inches instead.
To figure out roll out (or what is the roll out I have my car set up with), use the following formula (substitute 3.14 for PI if you like):
R = PI * D * P / S
As you can see, changing the pinion by 5 teeth will change your roll out different amounts depending on what spur you have and tire diameter.
Solve for P (or what pinion do I need to achieve a particular roll out, given the tires and spur gear on my car):
P = (R * S) / (PI * D)
It's simple algebra to solve for the other variables, but I'm not sure which others are useful.
Half the racers bring their laptop computers to the track to program their speed controllers. Use your brain and plug this into a spreadsheet, or write a program for your calculator, or write this down so it's easy to plug the numbers into your calculator, cell phone, or whatever other kind of calculator you're using. Gear charts can be handy, but it's quite helpful to know how to come up with one yourself in case you loose it.
I wanted to know Gerry's roll out not how to figure it out
but thanks anyway Tom
Also you could add the app to your phone if you have an apple iphone.
that was roll out on the pan car.oops ;D 74 roll out on the 12scale car 74 spur and 37 pinoin Gord
Are you running Tekin, Gerry?? They are a little different than other ESC's.
It will be interesting to see how much the new software affects the speed of the cars. Doing some testing on the bench and it seems to give the motors more punch.
Gorden
yes daryl i am using craigs spare. still waiting for mine to show up
So what are people's observations on the new software?
HUGE difference.
It feels like a brushed motor, yet you can still have the "turbo" rush down the straight.
It'll take a bit more tuning of the parameters, but it's an amazing difference, and all improvement.
Yep, if you are going to try it, install it for the practice heat because it takes about 16 mins to get used to the new-found bottom end.
Blake
oh thats what I've been waiting for......

damn, i cant wait to get my new esc in the mail and try it out..
Jayrod,
The damage you've been able to do with the original software is impressive. You will definitely like the new stuff.
I will have my computer with me again this Saturday night. I can help update some ESCs for those that don't have the Hotwire and/or a computer.

this new software.. is it version 203??
then blake, you were right.. they put 203 on my esc and apperently it worked fine..lol
i still wont have it back for another week or 2 yet..
are any of those rental cars that were offered to me last saturday still available??
That's cool Jarrod. Too bad you had to send away the ESC to find that out! Oh well.
Definitely show up on Sat; I'm sure there will be a ride for you.

well bassicaly all i need is a esc..
hey J-Rod. If you want to borrow a ESC I have a LRP TC you can borrow until your Tekin gets back.. Its not as fancy, but it gets the job done.
Shawn.
