IROCC in Victoria and NRC in Nanaimo are proud to announce our first ever carpet trophy race. After receiving numerous requests from racers, our two clubs have caved to the pressure and have teamed up to host a Carpet Edition Speed Weekend trophy race.
Date: Jan 8-9 2011
Classes: TC 17.5 Rubber, TC 13.5 Rubber, WGT, Mini, 12th Scale, 18R
I want to thank all those that have sent emails requesting this race. I especially want to thank Korgae Scales for *convincing* us to put on this race, and for providing a spec tire solution for TC classes.
IROCC and NRC can promise a professional, well-run event, with a top notch facility and top notch track equipment.
Of course there are MANY additional details still to be released (in the next day or two). For now, book Jan 8-9 2011; you won't be disappointed.
8 weeks and counting....

is WGT 13.5 or 10.5? and spec tires?
This may well be the first ever indoor race held by both tracks in a partnership, but many old timer IROCCers will remember our last indoor trophy race.

From the post on RCTech it sounds like our normal setup
Quote from: Blake;8214682Hi John,
Yep, the full details will be posted in the next 24 hours.
I can tell you that the track location is downtown Victoria, in a gymnasium at the Victoria Boys & Girls Club. This location has been our "home facility" in the winter time for the last six years.
The track is 80' x 36' and is made up of 3x rolls of CRC Ozite carpet. The carpet is only three years old, and is in VERY good shape. The track walls/barriers are CRC's "Clik-Trak" square PVC system.
I will post some photos of the facility very soon.
Blake
ya i noticed that but it will be tight for the WGT and touring cars.
Good day!
I would think that the lanes will be wider to accomidate the 1/10th cars.
Maybe we could fit one more roll of carpet in by moving the track closer to the far wall. What do you think? or maybe 7ft lanes?
Hi all,
The track will be the normal setup, but with 8' lanes (I think, gotta talk to Craig first). Our track is the biggest in Western BC (Vic, Nan, Van) so there is no need to make it any bigger. The tough part will be to come up with a decent layout with the larger lane widths. We also have to strategically avoid the tape lines.
It will be *TIGHT* at B&G... no doubt about it. However, B&G is our only option. Tonia tracked down some some places in Nanaimo and I tracked down some places in Victoria but they all want almost $2000 for the weekend. B&G it is.
More details will be released before 5PM tomorrow.
Blake
I'd rather see 7' lanes. Still reasonable for 1/12 scale, and tight but do-able for 1/10. We can get 5 lanes across the 3 rolls of carpet with 7' lanes (not that laying it out that way makes sense).
Good day!
This is going to be a lot of fun, looking forword to it! I have a question on the touring stock class, are we allowed to use motor timing?
Thanks Neil.

Hi Neil,
Yes, you are allowed to use physical endbell timing. Also, note that you will have to set your Tekin RS to the "Spec" profile (blinks LEDs 3 and 5 when in neutral) to be legal for this class. This signifies that your ESC has zero timing advance setup. This is the standard rule nowadays for 17.5 Touring Rubber.
Of course, you may also use an older brushless speed controller that does not have adjustable timing control. An example of this is the Novak GTB.
Here is the complete list of accepted ESCs for this class:

Hi Gerry,
For budgetary reasons, we might not have shirts for this event. Unfortunately we are going to be faced with significantly higher costs for this race when compared with the Summer race.
Blake
Anyone have spec tires for WGT and if so how much also how critical is the body I guess I would need one of those as well.
Don check with craig I believe crc makes a spec tire so we could get it in his order.maybe.
Are the Jaco Blue's going to be available at the race? And at what cost?
Shawn.
question.. dow a sc 18(team associateds 18thscale shortcourse truck) qualify for the 18r class..??

Don, check with Daryl or Craig. IROCC bought ten sets of WGT tires last month, but some were used by our guys at the Big Chill. I believe there are still five or six sets available. Obviously Craig can get more on his next order from CRC if needed.
Blake
Don, I have a bran new WGT Corvette Body unpainted in the package. It's the same body Craig has been running on his WGT car if you are interested.

Hi Shawn,
Yes, the Jaco Blues will be available at the race. Of course they are pre-mounted and ready to rock. The cost is $30 in your hands. And the brilliant thing about these tires on carpet is there is no need for multiple sets. I ran ONE set at the Big Chill in Touring Modified, and the traction was just as good after run 8 as it was on run 1 and 2.

Neil, you are fine. The main thing we're looking at in Touring 17.5 is that you have zero ESC timing. This keeps the field level for those with older, non adjustable timing ESCs.

Nick/Rob, let's talk about this on the weekend. Technically 4-cell is not allowed because it offers higher voltage than 1s LiPo. I know we permit some racers to use this in club racing, but we might have to make other arrangements for the big race. I can definitely lend you a good 1s LiPo if that's all you need. Then you'll be down at the proper weight as well.

PITTING/TABLES at Speed Weekend CE
Hi all,
As you already know, we are looking at a big turnout for Speed Weekend CE. We will have to consolidate/shrink our pit spaces so that everyone will fit. This means SHARING the 6' table you would normally have to yourself. It also means that your FATMAXes, Toolboxes, Totes, HaulerBags, etc... will have to be stored strategically under tables, etc....
This Saturday night we'll be planning out efficient "rows" of pit tables to get an idea of our maximum pitting capacity on the main level. At this time we can start to group people into pairs in preparation for table SHARING at the big race.
Blake
I need room for my 4 cars so glen will have to pit out side. ;D

I drove by there this morning and the block where the B&G is located is Mon-Fri. However, the next block towards town where the fire station is the parking is Mon-Sat so make shure where you park is ok on Saturday.
If anyone is struggling to put together a 2nd class, you may run a ROAR 27T brushed motor in the TC17.5 class. Similarly, you may run a ROAR 19T in the TC13.5 class.

Yes, that would be a great idea. Also, after you unload your stuff, maybe park in the next block (away from town based on Neil's findings) to allow out-of-towners to park in the good spots when they arrive.
Oh, and let's save the B&G sloped driveway for out-of-towners as well. Should be able to fit four cars in there.

Hi all,
Just a note that we'll be using the basic ROAR guidelines for weight and ride height:
Touring Stock, Touring SuperStock
Minimum weight = 1380g ***
Minimum ride height = 5mm
6 Minute Qualifiers/Mains
World GT
Minimum weight = 930g
Minimum ride height = 4mm
6 Minute Qualifiers/Mains
12th Scale
Minimum weight = 730g
Minimum ride height = 3mm
8 Minute Qualifiers/Mains
*** New ROAR 2011 proposed weight limit. We are anticipating that this rule will pass very shortly, and so we will take this opportunity to shed some weight from our cars.
Blake
Hey all,
Reminder about parking for Saturday:
You are good to park anywhere further from town than the firehall. However, if possible, please unload your gear in the loading zone and then park up one block by the gas station. This will allow more available parking for our guests. Walking from the gas station is only an extra half block... you can do it!

ARRIVAL TIME FOR SATURDAY MORNING
Hi all,
Please arrive at B&G at 8AM on Saturday. The gym is used as a youth-shelter on Friday nights and they start to leave the gym at 8AM on Saturday mornings. This means we can get in to begin setup as early as 8AM. Bill's shift doesn't start until 9AM but I don't think we need him do we? Nick, can you confirm whether we need Bill to get in the garage area?
Thanks,
Blake
" Bill's shift doesn't start until 9AM but I don't think we need him do we? Nick, can you confirm whether we need Bill to get in the garage area?"
If we have access to the main building, getting into the garage area shouldn't be a problem. Or perhaps I should say, it has never been a problem before! One locked door however can make all the difference!
Cool, thanks for the info Nick. If we run into a blockage, we'll still have plenty to do with table/pits setup and electrical cord routing/setup. Oh, and drivers stand setup as well.
Blake
TC Weight Rule
Speed Weekend 2011 CE will jump ahead of the curve and adopt ROAR's new proposed TC weight rule of 1380g. We expect this proposal to be approved very shortly and so we will take this opportunity to shed some weight from our cars. I know I have an extra 100g or so in my car!

Some random thoughts before bed:
1) Jody, the race will run again next year; no question about that. Look for a bigger venue, and a shift to Nanaimo next year. The race will be co-hosted again, but it's time to give NRC a chance to sleep in their own beds. Can you make it home next year, or will you have to wait until 2013 or so?
2) HUGE thanks to Tonia Leronowich for taking control of the computer and race announcing for 75% of the races. It was SO nice having all the extra horsepower on the administration side!
3) Equally huge thanks to Mick and MattM for putting together the excellent (and useful) trophies/pit-boards. I have already received Text-messages from some of the Vancouver guys saying how much they liked the idea.
4) Bruce and NRC raised over $800 through the two raffles! That is unbelievable! Thank you Bruce for contributing your XRay, and NRC for contributing the 18R! All proceeds went to Luc and his family!
5) Mick and Don raised another $300 through the sales of the Lucas Survivor Exile dekel sheets! Awesome!
6) Thanks JohnB for organizing the pizza order. After getting up at 5AM on Saturday, I was VERY hungry at noon!
7) Big thanks to Nick Newroth who called more than his fair-share of races.
8 ) On a personal note, big thanks to Thomas who helped me pit three cars! Couldn't have kept them all going without the assistance.
9) 116 total entries, 62 individual racers!
10) Congrats to RobF for putting his car DIRECTLY into the show for both 12th-Scale AND WorldGT! The two biggest classes!
11) Thanks to Neil for volunteering for corner marshalling, table pickup/drop, track repair, and anything else that needed doing.
12) Thanks to Mick for organizing the Tech Committe and keeping Tech running smooth all weekend.
13) Nice pics J-Roc. That was some fancy looking hardware you were shooting with... looked like Gord out there.

I missed out. Bigtime. Is there any t-shirts, stickers left over I can buy next weekend? And Mick is it possible to get one of those pitboards? I will be happy to pay you for it.
Ive missed bot speed weekends since joining this club. Nothing is going to stop me from going to the Time Zone race!!

Good day!
I would like to thank Shaye and Cherie for there help in getting the trophies finnished, good job!
Neil.
Good point Neil - I forgot about them too! Shaye helps us out two or three time a year with the trophy "process" and we'd be in trouble without her efforts!
