Title: Tires
Post by: Muddy Mudskipper on May 04, 2012, 11:33:12 AM
I am new and have a lot of questions. Today I am wondering about tire wear. How long does a set of tires last? Do you guys keep multiple sets? What should I look for in an on road tire?

It's been a while since I've baught new touring car tires, but I know the sorex 32 used to be a favorite compound.. And I always ran a full season out of a set , although 2 sets would probably what most people run these days..

Really depends how you drive. Power into the turn and scrub off speed while turning and you will wear them out a lot faster. Car setup also has an effect. Too much camber can wear them out quick. Burnt my jaco blues out at speedweekend cause of that.
One or two sets should last the season though. Im still running the freebies daryl gave me.

Just occured to me; you should get a set or two of 's freebies if you can. Otherwise rubbers are $40/ set.

Freebies as back up? If they are free there is usually a reason. haha but yes that's a good idea if anyones going to toss some.

I have a few sets of reasonable-condition tires you can have for free.  They are all 32 compound which is ideal for our track.  I will be storing them with our club rental car (which you should try this Sunday if you come out).

The freebies will get you going, and you could consider buying a new set if you get hooked on onroad.

I am already planning on Sunday. My first time on a track. I can't even colour between the lines so it might be interesting. HAHA! But I am pretty sure I will be racing this summer. I already ordered a car.  ;D

I was wondering if I needed a spare set for it because I had no idea about wear and how long they last. See you Sunday.

;D Honestly I don't know what to expect. I am pretty hard on my RC's but that is bashing. This one I am going to try and take care of but those curbs look like they can dish out some punishment. Especially to a noob.  ;D Oooops I meant to turn left there.... haha

Yeah, don't worry too much about breaking the rental-car.  It's happened before...!  We have a few spare parts for it, and the BC Shaver Shop has a bunch of spares as well.  We normally dial the top-speed down to minimum for a newer driver.  That way you can't hit anything too hard.

What car did you order?

I picked up a Tamiya TT-01e. For pretty cheap so I figured it was a good place to start. I know not many people have Tamiya anymore but I have a bunch of spare parts for them. Since I just built an off road it took a little bit of convincing of my accountant (wife). So cheap was best. :D LOL
