Title: Anyone know someone with a plasma cutter?
Post by: Blake on October 02, 2013, 01:33:01 AM
Hey all,

Annie is working at the SPCA (beside Lordco on Burnside) and they are looking to have some plasma cutting done on their cat kennels.  They need to cut cat sized archways/doorways in 12 different steel walls inside the facility.  I have no idea how thick the steel is yet.

Does anyone know of a person/company that could do this job?

Thanks,
Blake

Does it have to be plasma cutting? There's many other ways to cut through steel.

Just use an angle grinder with the right blade Blake. Probably cheaper and more ppl have them.

Thanks for the info guys.

Plasma cutting was recommended by "corporate" because it can do a nicer job I guess.  Grinding sounds like a lengthy process to get a decent finish?

My dad has some gas welding equipment with a cutting attachment.  I kind of remember it leaving a lot of hardened drips that needed cleanup grinding.  Plus it's up on Gabriola island.

Water jet will probably give you a nicer cut than plasma. Unless you could find an edm system in town.

So the work has to be done on-site?
