Title: Indoor Motors.
Post by: Shawn68z on September 22, 2014, 11:59:02 AM

Ok. Time for a new thread.   I know SPEC motors was under discussion towards the end of last year, and even a little during the summer.   I have not heard very much since then, are SPEC/Club motors being put to pasture?

Or is it going to be more of a "bulk purchase" hopefully with a discount?

Really curious, as my motors are 3-4 years old and all of them have had better days. I want to make sure  Rob and Daryl are behind me this year... Ah heck, lets add Brian to that list too. :-)  So I need a good motor, or atleast something comparable...

I asked blake about this yesterday and he didn't really have anything to say about it. So motors prob open. I'm trying a hobbywing this year. Though the orca is a good solid choice. Heard very good things about the r1 motors.

Thank you for your opinion, I think I will wait for Craig or Blake (or atleast someone from the exec) to make a more official post.

Sorry about that. It won't happen again.

Hey guys,

I honestly don't see a Spec motor happening right now.  We would have to give everyone a lot more warning since some people may have already purchased motors by now.  Also, guessing at the correct quantity, and then handling re-buys later is hard in the R/C business when the motors change frequently.

Don't get me wrong - I love the concept, but it's hard to implement.

Personally, I budget for one new motor per year: at the start of winter.  I go on RCTech (or other), do some reading, and buy what appears to be a good choice at the time.  This day and age, it seems that motors are relatively even across the board.

I plan to run my current Orca motors this winter, until Orca releases a new model (this Fall sometime).  I'll then switch to that for the next year.  Simple simple.

Is the D3.5 13.5 still ok?

Seeing as I haven't been around for a while, what are the current rules as far as motors and esc's go? 17.5 or 13.5? Blinky for esc's? I'm in Langford now, so hopefully I'll get out a little more this winter.

Hey Gord,

Technically no, all D3.5 motors have been deemed illegal by ROAR.  I would suggest that it's not a huge deal if this is all you have.  Eventually we might try to find something else for you and then the D3.5 could go in a rental car or something like that.

Hey John,

Sounds good - it'll be good to have you back on the track.  13.5 Blinky is the main 12th Scale class now.  Very similar speed to what we used to run (17.5 Boost).
