Please fill out the above poll so we have some indication of the minimum number of people showing up.  There are many club members who do not have Internet access, so there will be more people showing up than who participate here.

Remember to fill out the poll appropriately for all of your guests as well.

If you have any allergies, special requests, want to help with the preperations, or anything like that, call Tamara Younger at 658-0086, or email her at tamarayounger@dowco.com.

Tom, the correct spelling is vegetarian...:) And likely there will be 4 of us tree-hugging white wicker, beret wearing beatnicks attending...

Methinks someone doest not read the main front page of the website often.

This Sunday, after racing.  Since the parking lot is reserved for a triathalon, we may or may not have racing, which kind of changes the timeframe.  If we can't use the parking lot, it'll be in lieu of racing, otherwise, it'll be after racing.  We'll likely be able to race.

Sorry; I've never pretended to know how to spell.

If these will be guests of yours, please "vote" once for each guest.  Currently, there's only one tree-hugger registered, and I'd expect there should be at least 4 after your message.

If I had an option to vote more than once, I would have. I think this polling software sends out cookies saying this MOFO already voted and you don't get more than one vote...Unless it's simply my antiquated Dual G5 Mac that can't hope to keep up in this Windoze formatted Universe.....:)

Oops!  I didn't realize that would be a problem.  Hopefully everyone can "vote" properly if they try enough!

Perhaps logging off and on may work; it all depends on how sophisticated the bbcode is.  Or, maybe you can vote while not logged on as anyone.

Since this forum poll does not work like I expected, please disregard this poll, and instead, indicate the tastes of you and your guests on the poll on the main page of the site.  I know that it is possible to "vote" more than once on the main page polls.

I apologize for the confusion.

If any people or their families are willing to help prepare for this event, or have menu suggestions, please call Tamara at 658-0086, and leave a message if necessary.

Thanks.

It would be great if you could prepare an entree for the herbavores (a vegetarian dish).  The club is buying, so feel free to ask for reasonable compensation.

I have succesfully entered the dietary preference of me and my guest on the main-page poll, so I don't understand why you are having such problems.

And yes, I did register a whole number of guests (as opposed to a natural number of guests).

Is it possibly because you have admin rights?  It would let me enter three then that was it - locked out.  Did one adult, two kids then it wouldn't let me do any more kids....

I only log on as admin when I'm doing admin things.  Try it again.  I'm amazed at how often people don't try things again. . .

There is a time limit to prevent flagrent abouse of the system that prevents more than a certain amount of activity within a certain time period; this is likely what caused it to stop for you.  So, wait a bit, and try again.

It does seem to attempt to enforce one vote per member in the forum polls however, so everyone could just create a bunch more accounts. . .

i am logged in as admin and i can only vote once. I only see results no option to vote again.

Funny normally we hate the fact that we cant stop people from voting numerous times in our other polls and now we bitch about the opposite. damn humans.

At least we know how to hold more "accurate" polls for other topics, post them in a forum thread instead of using the "polls and surveys" option. We could move this poll there and people can vote as much as they like.

yes my goal today (while hard at work) {sicko} is to get as many threads off topic as possible.

Post less as in less threads..

OK here is an off topic question for kurk or Tom that I had that I should start an new thread for but wont becaue I am a true jack-ass.

If i charge some 1100 mAh NiMH cells (Ithink they are called KAN size?) like the ones in grinders NTC3 reciever) to full charge. and then leave them sitting at room temperature for 5 days how much capacity will they loose by just sitting there?

peace
Title: IROCC End-Of-Season Barbecue
Post by: Tom on September 22, 2005, 07:01:08 PM
IIRC, they're listed as initially loosing up to as much as 10% / day (c.f. NiCad at 2% / day), so poteintially they could be close to 50% capacity.

I'd say realistically they'd probably be more like 75% or so.

The rate is dependant on the temperature. I believe, and I also beleve these rates are supposed to be around room temperature as well.

I'm too lazy to look it up though.  I'm supposed to be working as well!

Quoteso poteintially they could be close to 50% capacity.

that explains the emergency landing today at lunch.

any idea how the Lithium Polymer ranks compared to NiMH and NiCD?

li poly's have almost no cap leakage thats why you do use a trickle on those suckers.

you DO-NOT trickle li poly's

I believe KAN is a manufacture not the size.  They were very popular because they made a NiCD that would source a LOT of current esp for the size of their cells.  The GP1100 are 2/3A size (yes they do actually make an "A" size cell - just imagine a 2/3A but 1/3 bigger ;)  They are an amazing little battery and able to source at least 30A.  Normally a NiMH of that size will not source a lot of current but again GP is always pushing the limits of what these cells can do.

Temp will determine the discharge of the cells when they are just sitting.  More importantly is the manufacture and most important the condition of the cells themself.  If you are loosing 50% of the charge in 5 days the cells have seen their day in the sun and its time to recycle them.  Typical self discharge is 1% per day for NiCD and 2-4% for NiMH.  These figures vary from cell size, age, manufacture, etc but it is a rough rule of thumb.  I suspect its not a linear discharge either.  Regardless it should give you a rough idea of what to expect.

Li-Poly have the lowest loss over time and some claim from 1% to 5% over a period of 30 days.  Much better than NiCD or NiMH.  Typically the problem with Li-Po is the charge rate of 1C which means it takes 1 hour to charge your cells however everyone seems to be pushing that too.  Be carefull when pushing Li-Po as the will burn fiercely - always use a thermal monitor and charge in a metal tray.  Li-Po also is much lighter so your power to weight ratio is much better with Li-Po.  They also keep the voltage higher under load which also means more power.

To recap (since this has gotten rediculously off-topic):

Please indicate the dietary preferences of you and all of your guests in the poll on the front page of the website.  It is definately possible for you to register that way contrary to what some people have reported.  This will help give a ballpark idea of how much of each type of food should be provided.  This will be used as a guideline to prepare for our barbecue, since there are many racers who do not visit our forums or the web page.

If you are at all able or willing, or know someone who is at all able or willing to provide help for this, please indicate your intentions to Tamara, at 658-0086 or tamarayounger@dowco.com.  So far,  absolutely nobody has indicated they are willing to help out in this manner yet, which means you'd better not get your hops up too high.

Also, if you have any suggestions as to the menu other than chips, pop, and burgers, please indicate the sort of food you would like to see to Tamara above.  Since we have at least 1 vegetarian planning on showing up, it looks like this person might be eating chips and pop, since again, nobody has yet indicated they would like any other types of food.

I hope to see everyone out there!

We can BRING something but Nicola has been at the hospital for four days and with six kids I don't think we could do much more than run around controlling Chaos...

Seriously if you would like us to bring a salad, etc we can do that in the controled chaos at home but trying to lend a helping hand and watch 6 kids is a bit of a reach....

Tell us what you need (salad, desert, etc) and we'll take care of it.

ARGH!

Please coordinate those efforts through the aformentioned contacts.  This forum is far too haphazard to coordinate anything at all, especially since nobody reads anything before posting.

Mostly we need to know what people want; this isn't a pot-luck where people are required to bring food.  However, if you want to bring stuff, there's no reason to turn it down.

The idea is that the club will be providing food for this big get-together, and one of the biggest problems is figuring out what kinds of food to supply.  Most people will be happy with a burger, but some people won't.  For those pickey people who won't want a burger (and people say I'm pickey!), it would be nice to know what sort of food they would like.

As far as managing snot-nosed little bastards, that's what my wife does all day long.

Pretty soon I'm just going to give up on trying to figure out what people want, and they'll just have to live with whatever Tamara thinks they want.  It's not supposed to be this difficult!

Here's the scoop:

Tamara will purchase buns, burgers, hot-dogs, pop, chips, and condiments for the barbecue.

Rob will be supplying potato salad, and a ham and cheese pasta salad.

If anyone else wants to do anything else, feel free, but I apparently lack the orginizational skils to coordinate something as simple as a barbecue, so I give up.

If anyone else wants to do any further coordination, feel free to do it wherever, however and whenever you like.

Thanks.
