Title: Awesome Night
Post by: dajracer on January 15, 2006, 03:04:16 PM
Considering Jan.14 was our biggest night(33 racers) in many years, we managed to get all the racing in and still have time to give out the door prizes inside the gym rather than in the alleyway. The biggest problem seemed to be the carnage that many people suffered, myself included. I don't think too many of us can remember when so many front arms were broken since we switched to the new steering arms.
Congratulations guys.

i second that!................ awsome night indeed..........i think that was the fastest track teardown i have seen yet good job to all those who helped out........................ you know you have a decent club when qualifying is so close that the middle of the A to the bottom of the  B is only seperated by slightly more than one lap

That shows how much is equipment, and how much is driving.

Ask any of the top runners, and they'll tell you it's about how many times you crash in a race, and not what you've got under the hood that counts.

That was the worst night ever.  Had to rebuild my motor 4x.  I can't handle the speed when I geared up.  On top of that, I found out that I can't drive RC cars.  I should just quit now that I have not yet drive my truck over my RC cars.

I would also like to point out how impressed I am at the level of racing we have in our club.

We had 28 racers in 4 mains, from the A to the D.  I am extremely impressed with the level of competetion and skill in these races.  Our C main could easily be mistaken for the B main, and the B main could also be mistaken for the A with the skill level of driving being displayed.

It is also impressive seing how curtious the drivers are to one another.  Racing indedents are inevitable, but it seems in the C and B, any time there is contact, one driver will wait for the other before they proceed with their battle, almost all of the time.

This is very commendable; it is easy to get caught up in the moment and continue on without waiting.

Also, even if someone is passing you for position, if the driver is clearly faster than you are, it is often a good idea to let them by without a fight unless the race near the end.  If you're holding up a faster driver, they'll eventually get by given enough time, and the longer you hold them up, the more likely it is that the both of you will be involved in a crash, which benifits nobody.  This is a curtious thing, since you are by no means obligated to make it easy for someone to pass you for position, but sometimes it is better to give it up gracefully than it is to give it up spectacularly.

Congrats guys for an awesome field.

Its really really tough when you are faster than your heat and you bump the guy in front of you trying to make a clean pass but failing.  My third qualifier I'm sure I could have gotten 33 laps in but I bumped the guy in front of me (who passed me when I let the last guy I bumped catch up) and let him back up.  Regardless its gonna teach me

1) Drive cleaner when passing - give the guy a little more room.  Getting slowed down by the guy in front of you is better than bumping him and stopping to let him back into the race.

2) Its all for fun not about getting the best possible lap.  I'm not gonna screw some guy out of his best qualifier because I'm the fastest guy in his heat by taking him out.  Maybe I hosed myself out of two laps but maybe I've POed people a little less by being courteous when I screw up.  I've noticed a few guys "better" than me could take a few notes rather than doing the old Freight Train through the pack.  I'm learning a good habit while its not too late.  I had an awesome race with Rob because he kept passing me when I was pulled over and it was a fight to catch back up.  That was the most fun because it was a real challenge for the both of us.  I ended up just getting into the B (although I threw it in the toilet about 2/3 through the main) and I wouldn't have done any better than the B with 33 laps anyhow.

I've still got a lot of work - I bumped Glen in the main trying to get by and it took the corner marshal a while to get to him.  I'm working on it!

once you get into the A its so much easier to stay consistent, i just looked at the results and i dont think ive ever had such consistent lap times. because your not always fighting to get buy a slower car, or getting hit by another, you pretty much run your own race. i had about a half dozen 14.3 and a fast lap of 13.9. all except 4 were 15 sec or lower.

I LOVE THE "A"

Ah the A is a ways away for me.  My goal was the B by the end of the season but I somehow managed to get there early on in the season.  I'm really more interested in concentrating on passing and more consistant lap times, etc before I mash with the big boys ;)  I can tell what the car is doing now - just learning the lines, etc...
