Title: 1/8 scale
Post by: on February 20, 2006, 08:26:17 PM
So with all this talk about 19 turn..............what about 1/8 scale?if  the club is gonna run 19 turn because there is enough interest will the club run 1/8 scale if there is enough interest?

I would expect not since the larger cars require a much larger facility.

That's kind of like running 1/10 scale cars on our 1/12 scale track.  It's a bad idea.

We'll be lucky to get 19T Dog...  from the sounds of it you do need a significantly larger area for 1/8th scale..... although it does sound fun :)

I don't feel we should use what other clubs do as a guide.

We run a 1/12 scale track in the winter for 1/12 scale cars.  If we ran 1/10 scale as well, it would either suck for one class or it would suck for both classes.  I know this from experience.  Either it would be good for 1/12 scale and suck for 1/10 scale cars (a track like ours), or it would be good for 1/10 scale and suck for 1/12 scale (like lots of other tracks), or it would be in between and suck for both classes.

Now, picture running your nitro touring car on our 1/12 scale tracks.  That would suck.  That would be equivelant to running an 1/8 scale nitro car on the 1/10 scale electric tracks we run during the summer.  We could do what other clubs do and end up with a good turnout consisting of 10 guys, or we could continue running good tracks and limiting the available classes to keep racing great for everyone, and continue with regular turnouts other clubs can only dream of.

When I was in Edmonton, the 1/8 scale cars ran on an alternate layout (they adjusted some boards) so they could make it around.  I think there may have been 6 cars, at a large, national level invatational event.

I hope we never subject our club to this, although I think it would be great if they could be run at a different time so they could have a proper 1/8 scale layout.

Which is why we should run two days a week - isn't that why we made weekends two days long?

It would be nice if we had our own facility.  Since we only have the park and ride on sunday's.  That would not be justafiable.  Hey don't you guy's run practise on Tuesday nights anyway.  ther you go your two days.

That's one DAY and one NIGHT so really if you combine them together its really only one complete day.  Thanks for pointing that out I guess we need two daytime races and two evening practices..... good idea!

That is the smartest thing ever said in these forums.

Think of it this way.. it will give you longer to figure out what the hell to change on your car so you can stay on the same lap as me.

Dog Ball  have a look at the points from last season. I tore you a new one dude.

However I think this year We will both be on the lead lap lots I am sure, just listen for that huge whinning "rrrmmmm" from Craig's car as he cooks yet another first gear and we move to the front.

I dont think Blake is really a threat since he only comes twice a month. Actually he is coming too regularly and thats the whole problem. LOL
