i was reading in a different post for the buy and sell adds on this site and i came accross and excellent idea that mr Dave payne had.......a buy and sell forum that doesnt allow a reply to post........i think this would be an awsome idea to only be allowed to reply by PM would not allow threads to be high jacked , as i was browsing and came across alot of those!

Initially I liked the idea as well. Except if you look back at some of the posts there are lots of constructive questions being asked etc. I think if we just heckle the idiots worried about someone elses price they will stop doing it. We only really have a handfull of people posting so training shouldnt be hard. On a forum with thousands of users I would do it.

Like I say it is nice to be able to ask a question, almost every for sale post has had follow up info or questions being posted. Eventutally we will get the point across that if you think the price is too high then shut the fugg up and dont buy it. Or make a real offer if you are turely interested even if the price is high. People will move on their pricing if real offers are being proposed..

Besides, the worst sorts of posts which occur in all forums are the "YGPM" sort, announcing to the world that you have sent someone a message using a different format.

I, as with most people, couldn't care less if one person emails, telephones, sends a private message, a letter, or shouts at someone else, so why the heck announce it to the world?

That, and replying in a forum when a poster explicetly requests PM's or some other form of communication, is a far worse breach of ettiquette than the mild forms of thread hijacking Dave is so concerned about in my opinion.

At least we can't go and re-write history; that was a major pet peeve of mine when Haddow first put this together, and one which many forums don't seem to mind.
