Hey all,

I mentioned this race to some of you a couple weeks ago.  Here is the info:
http://home.att.net/~fantasyworldracing/summer_sizzler_2009.htm  (click the graphic to see the entry form)

This could be a possible replacement roadtrip for IROCC, since we can't get to Kamloops this year.  They are racing TC17.5, TC13.5, TC-Nitro as well as some other classes.  World-GT could be applicable to us as it is Pan-Car based, but I think your car would have to be in 200mm mode, and you'd need a Sports Car body rather than a GTP body.

Some notes:

  • This race is the weekend after Central Saanich Days which is slightly unfortunate timing - but not the end of the world.
  • You'll probably need a valid Canadian Passport to get to this race.  Getting this processed before August should not be a problem though as they tend to give priority to people travelling in the near future.
  • There are two ways to get there:  BC Ferry to Vancouver (~$100 CAD for a group of 4 in a van), and then a three hour drive down to Tacoma.  Or, the Coho Ferry (~$100 USD for a group of 4 in a van) from the Victoria Inner Harbour to Port Angeles, and then a 2.5 hour drive down to Tacoma.
  • Looking at last year's results, it looks like they had 80+ entries with lots of familiar names from Vancouver making it down there.

Anyway, give it some thought.  For anyone scared of the passport application process - it's really a piece of cake.  You can do the initial setup online (let me know if you want the link), and the big "crunch" from years ago is over, so you don't have to take a day off work to go in and complete the process.

I'm definitely interested in this race.  I personally would run one TC electric class, and the TC-Nitro class.  I would also be open to taking my van down there.  I can fit four people (and tents/tables/equipment) comfortably.

I would certainly be up for it, but I have to check about time off....
We would also have to check into tires and bodies for World GT.

Here's some WorldGT info:

Class rules from the host club (Fantasy World Hobbies):
http://home.att.net/~fantasyworldracing/rules.htm   (scroll 3/4 of the way down the page)

Generic WorldGT class rules:
http://www.worldgtrc.com/

Some tricky stuff in there like spec tires, sports-car bodies, and 4-cell....  Enough to steer me toward TC classes I think.

I think the Coho ferry option might be the ticket as we'll avoid possible massive lines at the regular border crossings on the lower mainland.  Also, for those that might not be as "welcome" in America, it's less of a return trip home....

what day would we leave?

Probably Friday morning (Aug 7th).  Their poster says there is open practice on Friday afternoon.

Yeah, leave Friday morning (Coho: 6:30AM or 10:30AM) in hopes of getting some practice time that afternoon/evening.
Last boat back leaves Port Angeles at 9:30PM on Sunday night.  I will email Fantasy World to make sure the race will be over in time for us to get back to that 9:30PM boat.  Coho offers reservations which we'd probably want to do both ways.

Both ways to Tacoma have their pros and cons

i just sailed the coho last week. if we didn't have reservations and were not 1.5 to 2 hours early and on a motorcycle I wouldn't have made it.

Without reservations there is almost no way a bunch of separate cars will make the boat. long wait between sailings too. Highway 101 is also slow and lots of it "single track" coho is also old and shitty and security takes awhile. the 101 is a lot nicer than the I-5 as well.

The I-5 is bumpy and driving through Seattle on the I-5 still sucks if it is near any peak traffic times.

take your pick

I have the Friday and Monday off some I'm in

RC51

If there is something brewing n Vancouver a week or two after (I believe there is!), I'd be up for that. The Tacoma trip is just a wee bit too close to Saanich days (4 days) for me to be able to be unavailable again. Wish I could but it's a bit much at this end.
