Alrighty then so I've just recently gotten into this hobby though I must admit I've wanted to for some time now.  That being said, I have a few questions about what you allow on the track and what you don't.

Esentially What I have:
-A re-release kit of the old school Tamiya Hornet.

Kit has been modified as such:
-Removed stock tires, replaced with wider road tread wheels(front and rear)
-Stock 540 can removed, replaced with 15t 540 motor (brushed)
-ESC replaced to accomodate new motor.
-All plastic bushings replaced with steel Bearings (including in the transmission)
-Front tension spring suspension replaced with Oil Dampened shock system  (turning was a real pain at any kind of speed without this)

Other than that, the rest of the car is stock, including a really terribly painted Luxan Body (heh, it was my first one)

So I guess the main question is, would this be acceptable on the track in your 1/10th class?
Should I make some changes?
The new motor is as I'm sure you would guess significantly faster than the stock one, I'm just curious to know if it puts me out of the running.

I had one of them back in the day!

To be honest, that car is not appropriate for our on-road track. Your car is an off-road buggy that you've tweaked to get it to work on pavement, and our on-road track hosts races for on-road cars.

Chassis wise, your car wouldn't stand a chance in the infield, and your modified motor would make it challenging to race with due to the vastly different power band.

Although I hate to discourage guys from showing up and running with us, I can't see how we could get a race going with that car on our track.

A bunch of guys will often show up on Tuesday evenings; you might have more fun burning around the parking lot in that atmosphere with your car. Check it out on Sunday, and get a taste for some of the action.

that looks like a fun car to play with for sure but as mentioned, not appropriate for the type of racing we do. if you were still interested in racing cars, come check us out on sunday, or come around tuesdays 6:30-8. people dont always go practice but if you live close to the juan de fuca facility it doesn't hurt to check it out.

If you still want to come out and race cars with us our classes are as follows;

Touring stock

Any 1/10 scale 4wd electric touring car chassis. starts at $100 and goes up
17.5 turn sensored brushless motors
non boosted electronic speed control
2cell Lipo battery with hardcase
Touring car body. no sports car bodies. must resemble 4door sedan. most of us run protoform 190mm bodies.
Rubber tires

Touring nitro

Any 1/10 200mm 4wd Nitro powered vehicle. this is the full open class.

World GT

Any 1/10 2wd pancar chassis
13.5 turn brushless
open esc
world gt spec body and tires
1 cell lipo hardcase battery.

there are a number of vehicles for sale in our classifieds as well as many options that can be had new for fairly cheap. you should talk to jeff at bcshaver if your interested in getting into a car.
touring stock is our largest class and the one most people start in. nitro is definitely an advanced class with world gt fitting somewhere in the middle.

Hi fioret221,

The answers above are good.  Definitely try to get out there on Sunday or Tuesday and introduce yourself to the group.  I would be willing to bet that someone will let you try a Stock Touring car so you can get a sense of what an onroad car is like on our track.  Try to locate the Fantetti clan as they may have a car you can try.  Just promise them you won't break it!

And, just an FYI:  the electronics you have in your hornet would be workable in a Touring Car chassis.  Although your motor is technically a "modified" motor, it would be fine to run it in the Touring Stock class to get started.

I think i might pick one of these kits up to try
http://os.3racing.hk/carkits_web.php?carkits_web_key=30

its the update to the car gerry has. all the 2011 spec stuff in plastic. supposed to retail for $130 so a steal for the amount of car you get in the box.

Im actually half considering getting a few of them, and buying a bunch of hobbywing/speedpassion stock club race stuff to sell them as oem cars at the track.
