Is there a guard available for TC4 spur and pinion gear?

Little pebbles keep jamming up my spur and pinion gear.  I've only driven the car a few times and those 2 parts are badly damaged already.

well there isnt a guard but the main thing to stop this from happening is to stop driving where there are little pebbles................or just slap a piece of tape on the bottom of the chassis if you cant resist the urge to drive where there are pebbles

Its impossible for you to have rocks stuck in your gears... Tom has been running offroad for hundreds of years under 50 feet of sand with a hopper loading rocks into the gears and has never had a rock stuck in his gears....

There isn't really any cover for the spur gears to keep the rocks out.  You can put the tape on the bottom to reduce the ammount that gets in.  The problem you are having is because you are using the car on the street where its pretty filthy.  Our track is much cleaner than your typical side street.  I ran all last year without changing the spur (although I did have to remove the odd rock - a dental pick is the perfect tool for getting those out....)

Your pinion should be fine as long as you take the rock out when you hear it in the gear rather than letting it grind in...

I've had rocks stuck in my ntc3 gears and locked up the car.  Not impossible.

Its happened to me 4 times already! Kinda anoying, maybe this is just a TC3-TC4 thing.

Of course its possible - I was just razzing Tom re our discusion about rocks last year ;)

Point is - as soon as you hear the rock in your gear stop and get it out unless you wanna change the pinion and spur...

No, unfortunately it's not just a TC3/4 thing.
As other have pointed out, it's a dirty enviroment that you have chosen to run your car in thing.

As was pointed out, our Summer racing facility is super clean because we sweep it, and because we wash it down, and because we use high velocity gas air powered blowers to try and keep the track free of small pebbles and other crap.

Come out on(weather permitting!)  Tuesday evening with your car and radio to the park and ride parking lot in Colwood, we'll have a broom with your name on it,  and you can sweep to your hearts content until there are no gear damaging debris left. :-)

I ran basically the entire season last year with my NTC3 on the same set of pinion and spur gears, and I did run the same spur gear all last season on my Yokomo, which is very similar to your TC3.

Keep stuff clean(track included) and your racing will be much more rewarding.

Nick

I just wanted to get some enjoyment out of my car.  You must understand,  i'm new to the hobby. One day I will have a car that I can baby.  See you at the track.  Ready to push a broom.

Funny thing. I was digging through a pile of gravel yesterday and I found a spur.
