Hows everyone....just a quick question for help towards buying an on-road rc. What would you guys recommend?

I am looking for a used TC3 or something like it, I'm not to sure how much I would like to spend because I don't know if racing touring cars would be for me.

The club here in Port Alberni is just finishing the paving of the new site for the on-road race track that our club will start holding, and as of now I have nothing to race with. Even if one of you guys have something kicking around worth picking up let me know.

Thanx

valk

Hmmm might have to come up one weekend and check that track out.
What are the other people in your club gonna be running? What class structure? Whats your budget? You can get a rtr tc4 for under $300 which is a pretty good car to star out with. I almost did that but decided to put a used tc5 together mosly of used stuff from rctech. About $600 for everything needed to race.

Could always come down on sunday and give the rent a ride a whirl to see if you like onroad.

xChrisx

I was looking at the tc5. Like I said tho I have no idea if on-road is for me(rent a ride....I like it)
I have a really hard time following the cars at on-road races or video of them.
The track just got paved not to long ago(3 days or so) and it is getting the lights installed for night racing hopefully today sometime, then it's going to be the track/stand set-up. It's not done yet, but hopefully within then next week or so it will be ready to go.

I will post up some pic's when it's ready so you guys can see it!

well I found something cheap and all ready to go for $150.00, but he will trade for one of my sc10's (roller)

I'm coming here to ask you guys because this is where I would go to ask for on-road related questions!

Would any of you do the trade? keep in mind I have never even thought of going into on-road and I just need a good starting point for a NOOB...lol will this make an okay 1st on-road racer, the vids I have seen of it everyone is drifting it.

I wouldnt go with that drifting is totaly different type a car. Stick with associated or tamiya or xray. the first 2 have a good parts supplie at a reasonable price.   Is the city donating you land how are you guys getting a track put in?  We need a permanent track. but land is a premium here. are you guys painting the track or doing like us and changing the track every week so its not the same thing all the time?

xChrisx

One of our local members owns ALOT of land, he is putting up his land for the track, I think that he is going to just use markers and stuff to lay out the track so it can be changed every so often(but I'm not to sure tho)

He also is the land owner of our local out-door track as well, great guy and everyone in the Alberni club really appreciates him for the effort and space he provides for the club

tc5's come up on rctech.net for $150 fairly often. thats what i paid for mine, shipped even.
i saw one the other day but its quite far down the classifieds page list now. you should be able to find a tc4 for less but depends. most of the sales i saw included a bunch of parts which is a great way to get in, not having to buy the replacement parts yourself ect.
I wouldn't look at xray/tamiya/schumacher or hotbodies cars due to cost of the cars + cost of the parts. HPI might be alright and the price is right for the parts but you might need to stock up to keep it on the track if your hitting boards a lot.
associated is a great car to start with though. parts are usually pretty easy to get and don't cost a lot. also consider what your local shop carries. I don't know about port alberni but our hobby shop has slim pickings for touring car parts. most of which are associated and xray. surprising amount of HPI parts.
what classes does your club plan to run? do you have electronics and motors you can use in this car? that is where most of my cost went. $150 on the car, but $150 for a brushless system, $100 for my radio system, $50 for my two lipo batteries, $50 for my lipo charger and a couple tc bodies at $30/piece. touring car tires are also pretty expensive, $40 premounted, more if you diy. sometimes you can get them used for cheap or nothing.

im not experienced like these guys. only a few race weekends so far with my tc5 but im glad i got it and not a RTR car. its a car I can grow into as a racer much better than an rtr car. though, with that said, im sure blake could take the clubs rtr tc 4 and still beat everyone, and take tq.... lol.

xChrisx

Thanx for the help guys, hmmm I think I will go hunting for the Tc5. Whats the old saying "Go big or GO HOME" haha

When the track here gets closer to completion I will post up some pic's of the set up, right now it's just one big freshly paved lot.

valk

what classes do they plan to run? im sure more than a few of us would come up once in a while to run on a purpose built track.

you should be pretty happy with the tc5 as your first car me thinks. there are some newer "Faster" chassis out there but the tc5 has all the adjustability of them, similar aftermarket support ect. only thing that sucked for me was having to get a lipo retainer for it.
for me,  the car is a fair bit faster than its driver atm i can say that much.

I smell a ROAD TRIP coming. post some photos of what you have so far.

I have found what I think might be a good trade for my SC10, would you guys trade a stock SC10(rtr) for a semi upgraded TA-04 pro(artr). The wife tightened our belt when it comes to paying over $200 when I have no idea if I will enjoy racing touring cars yet.

On another note:
I have no idea now if their going to go with the track here, last I heard there are only about 8 of us with or getting touring cars so the track is on hold for now. Talk is we are just going to take it one race at a time, setting up the track as we go, But I will keep you guys updated when I know something.
