I haven't purchased the batteries as of yet, the guy lives in Vancouver. I'm not about to send money without the product in my hand. So tell me, what should I buy?

The GPs are extremely robust and reliable batteries and will take a real beating.  They will produce good voltage under heavy loads.  It looks like some of the new batteries may be very slightly higher in voltage but trust me when you are starting out its not going to make any difference for sure.  You can spend as much $$$ as you want but practice is going to be your most crucial aid in getting faster - not bling bling...

Remember:

1. Practice is your friend

2. Don't buy cheap garbage batteries but don't get caught up in the numbers game.  The GPs are a good deal assuming they are working.  You can spend a lot on batterys and you won't get the performance return until you are at a fairly high level...

3. Practice

4. Don't forget about Practice - that's where its at...

Grinder I dont think you emphasized practice enough. Seriously, practice is where it is at. The default setup in your instructions is where to start and then once the car is setup and nothing is tweaked or broken, leave it alone and practice.

3300's can win races still especially in a 5 min stock touring class.

dont forget to practice. On race days show up ready to go, all charged up and as soon as the track is open get out there and burn as many packs as possible

Oh and don't forget PRACTICE!!

Did I mention Practice?  'Cause practice is really important.

Put it this way - clip a dot and you've lost the advantage of an expensive set of batterys.

Practice is important so I may mention it more than (practice) once (practice)

One way to look at the practice issue is to review the top two cars in the A main last week in 1/12 scale.

The cars were evenly matched.

The drivers were evenly matched.  No drivers in the A need to be corner marshaled on a regular basis.

One driver made one mistake which cost him 4 seconds.

The other driver won the race by just over 5 seconds.

If your driving ability is at a level where you regularly have to get corner marshalled at least once in every race, you won't benefit from spending anything more than what it takes to get economy equipment, since your driving ability will make a bigger difference than your equipment.

I'm planning on using my old 3300's; we'll see if I need to replace them.

If I do replace them, it's because of their age, not their numbers.

So, if you look at the archives of the forums (I don't think they persist long enough), you can see Grinder's attitude before he showed up racing, where I got the impression he figured the go-fast bits would enable him to win races.  He has definately learned that it's the driving that counts, not what's in your car.  Listen to his advice; he has less than a full year of racing experience, and he's gone from a complete rookie to an OK driver in a very short period of time.

It's all in the driving, and the only way to get good at driving is by racing.  If you're playing with your car by your self, you can only learn the fundamentals of control; you can only really learn how to drive your car when you're on a track with other cars.

Get the 3300's; you won't regret it if they're anything like they've been advertised.

I'll be using last years 3300.

Only be thinking about replacement, if the runtime of battery dies before the race.

Focusing on car setup and practice.

cyrrus

3300 vs 3800.

Well lets see.  I used my 3300 when I went to Calgary Race last week.  Just about everyone was using 3800's .  Even though I never ran touring on Carpet.  I also had some bad luck in Calgary.( just stupid thing.  Got only 2 qualifiers in.  I managed to qualify 2nd in the C.  during pratice I was passing a guy running a 19turn and just as quick down the straight.  with.  I shouldv'e made the B.  So like Everyone Said Praticse is I key.
I will be running 3300's Unless I start to dump during 19turn.
ood grief I think I lost my....
. one turn at a time, but what do I have to do on the straight's again.
