Oh and re: the van - its a 14 or 16' enclosed box we are looking for - flexible on most other things depending on the price...

This practice day, 23rd, are there going to be 'actual heats', or is it just, if your clothespeg is available go drive?

I might make it, but I'll be putting together my car, installing electronics, and probably only running one battery pack.

I was so dialed, I was calling collect.

Tom

At the start of the 1/12 scale season, I was under the impression that the first week was to be a practice night, like there has been discussion of the 23rd being.  However, it turned out that many racers expected the first night to count for points, so it ended up counting.

If it is expected that the trailer is there this Sunday it'll be there, but the first I heard of this expectation was just a couple days ago in a phone conversation.  I was initially under the impression that there would be a two week hiatus, and the first official race day (and apperance of the equipment) would be on the 30th.

I'm not going to bring the trailer to the track unless our permit to use the parking lot is in effect, so that'll probably be the biggest deciding factor.  The club is officially racing on the 30th, and any other times not covered by the permit, it's everyone on their own, not affiliated with IROCC, covered by insurance, etc.

Blake

From a Permit and Insurance perspective, we're cleared to use the parking lot starting now.  We're currently "OKed" in both those aspects.

Last summer, on the weekend prior to the first official point race, we had a complete track setup but we had no computer, heats, mains, etc...  It was open practice on a complete track setup.

If Tom is willing (or if someone else can grab the trailer) then I'd personally like to go this route again.  I'd like to get some practice in on a full track setup without having to worry about the computer, getting to the line on time, or pulling off at the 5 minute mark to make way for the next heat.

And as for doing a dry run, I'm confident that we'll be able to run the first official raceday smoothly.  I'm pretty sure we've done it before!

Tom

Then the trailer will be there, bright and early.

Tom, if you don't want to show up, I will drag the trailer down there. I may not have a car ready but I will be there to collect membership fees. if anybody wants to pay up at that time. It will take some of the pressure off you two the following week if I can get some of this done Sunday.

So for those of you showing up on Sunday, it would be greatly appreciated if you could pay your $20 club membership fee. There will be NO racing fees this Sunday.

On another topic, I have 5 club motors left which I will bring Sunday. They will be sold on a first come(money in hand), first served basis. Price is still $35. for the motors.

I still have 16- 3300mah cells. These cost the club $13.75/cell. I will sell them for $10/cell so we can recoup some of our money. No battery bars left though.

Personal transponders are still available at $100/each.

I will have this stuff at the track on Sunday, so bring money.

Blake

Yet another change in plans for this Sunday:

Apparently there is a large group of us that would like to run full on heats and mains for the practice day.  The idea is to "work out the kinks" before starting with official points racing the following weekend.  It will also give the newcomers a chance to see how a raceday works before they're thrown to the fire the following weekend.

So, assuming this is OK with everyone, we will (I will anyway; Thomas may not be there) bring the computer system along and run timed races as per a regular raceday.  The schedule will likely be very slack and we may not be able to run three rounds of qualifying.  We'll have to play it by ear depending on how our schedule is going.

Warning: We will be asking for a LOT of help with the computer so that we can have a chance to work on our cars too.

Tom

Well, if there's actual racing to be had, I'll definately stick around for the race day.

I also think we should use the results from this practice day as a seed into heats for the first real race day.

Looks like I'm going to have to get ready for racing a week earlier than expected!

haddow

I'll help with computer, although I keep hearing about how much I need help on the race track with my driving.

Glad to have you onboard Tom.

If we use the practice results as a seed into the heats for the first real race day, then will we still do a resort after round two of qualifying on that first real race day (as per usual)?

BTW, let's hope this holds true:
