I'm a complete newb to the rc car scene...
So I ordered an HPI Savage X 4.6 SS Monster Truck kit from Amainhonnies.com this evening...

...I have no clue as to how to build an rc car/truck.

I'll also be buying/building an Xray T2 over winter/spring in preperation for next summers racing.

Can anyone recommend tools/tips/tricks that might make my learning experience smoother/easier?

Like how not to strip screws and other mishaps?
What trick tools might I need? (Duck tape? lol)
Any recommended servos, ESC  for off roading?

Again, I'm a COMPLETE newb and barely know the meaning of ESC, so any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,

Micholi.

1) avoid jumping in and starting to build it the day it arrives.

2) read the manual cover to cover. read it a few times.

3) In the manual it will tell you what tools you need. get them and make sure they are new or in mint shape. that avoids stripped screws

4) Dont over tighten, it is easier to replace a lost screw while learning how tight to go rather than wrecking an expensive piece.

5) download the manual if you can and read it before you get the kit. Read every word (ie. dont just skim the pictures).

Good luck.

optional step 6)

6) put the monster truck away and get yourself a 12th scale car and come race. why wait till summer?

I was and may still be considering running carpet this winter, but I'm not available on most Saturday nights, so I picked up the truck...

I watched a couple Savagae X you-tube videos, the build doesn't look as bad as tearing it down to fix stuff.

They do come RTR, but I chose the kit so I can customize it and learn about how to build and fix it. I've got quite a bit of reseach done now...I will buy the radio & reciever last...and get everything else I need in the meantime.
