Central Saanich Days Challenge 2009

In two weeks, IROCC will be running its fourth annual Central Saanich Days Challenge.  This is a one-day trophy race held over the August Long Weekend each year - smack in the middle of a big community event over here: Central Saanich Days.

Race Date: Sunday, August 2nd, 2009
Location: Central Saanich (15 mins from the Swartz Bay ferry terminal)
Track: Huge! Contained within a lacrosse box. About 180' x 90'.
Classes: Touring Stock (17.5BL/27T), Touring SuperStock (13.5BL/19T), Touring Nitro, Pro10 (10.5BL/19T)
Fees: Cheap! $5 per class
Schedule: First Qualifier at 10:30AM.  Mains at 3:30PM.

This trophy race is one day only - Sunday, August 2nd, 2009.  No need for expensive hotel rooms!  There will be three rounds of qualifying, and single mains that day.  We'll be finished by 5:30PM so that visitors from the mainland can hop on the 7PM ferry to return home.  Last year we had 85 entries come out, and everyone had a ton of fun! The track is HUGE, so bring some big pinions or a Nitro car!

All racers will receive one ticket for a free pancake breakfast. So, hold off on the ferry's Sunshine Breakfast, and enjoy some tasty pancakes instead!

Just a note: IROCC will be running a regular club race day (also in Central Saanich) on the Saturday (August 1st, 2009), so if you are interested in two days of racing, come on over and join us for an entire weekend of racing!

Directions to the Central Saanich Days Track
1. Leave the ferry and follow the Pat Bay Highway south.
2. Turn right on Mt. Newton Cross Road.
3. Turn left on Wallace Drive.
4. Centennial Park will come up on your right. Turn right on Hovey Road and follow it to the left back to the lacrosse box.

Anyone have a good idea for trophy handouts this year?  We need something we can get together in two weeks or less.

Any ideas are welcome.

Thanks,
Blake

How about a burnt up nitro motor or armatures. A best blow up or smoke show trophy or a bunch of broken up parts on a plaque for best crash. Just an idea I'm sure we all have a few blown up parts that would work all right for this....blake I have a three foot trophy I would be glad to give up, we just need to put a new plate on it. Its really nice.

Blake

Gerry, can you bring the trophy out this Sunday so I can have a look at it?

I'm currently leaning towards a nicely framed pic of each individual driver with an engraved plaque on the bottom.  If a driver is in two classes, he gets just one framed pic, with two plaques stuck on the bottom.  The pic will be of the driver holding his cars/kids/whatever.

Keeping it to one pic per individual will help with costs and general logistics.

Any interest in doing the "Ladies TC Stock" class again this year at Central Saanich Days?  We'd need about 6 seriously confirmed if we want to do it.  It'd likely be run on the Sunday only.

Let me know,

By the sounds of the banter from the Vancouver folks and elsewhere, we could be in for expanded attendance at the race on Sunday and perhaps on Saturday. Is 10:30 an early enough start time? Larger heats?

I'd like to start earlier, but that makes it tough for the travellers coming over that morning.  The best they can really do is arrive at the track at 9AM if they are very lucky.  It'll take them a bit to get their pit setup and I'd like to provide them some practice time.  We had a lot racers last year (84 entries) and we managed to get done by about 5:30PM if I remember correctly.  This year we'll likely hand out the trophies to the travellers as they finish their mains.  That way they can head to the ferry a little quicker if we're running late.

If Sunday morning brings really huge crowds of racers (more than 85 entries) then we'll have to cut practice short and get going by 10AM perhaps.

And yes, if needed, heats can be run a little more "full" than regular since the track is so big.

Don't forget the Chris Avison Memorial Trophy.

I haven't had much interest in the Ladies Class.  I know that lots of people do not read this forum, so does anyone know of other ladies that are hoping to race, but have not responded here?  I will need to get the plaques setup very soon....

Thanks,
