Hesitation on acceleration

Good day!

My car started to act up in the main race. When I tried to accelerate, it would not give full power the instant I pulled the throttle. It insted would hesitate for about 1/2 second of so then give full throttle. I played with it at the track for a bit but could not fix it.

Now I have had some time to look at it and try to find out what is wrong. The first thing I did was to go over radio settings. Then I tore down the motor and cleaned it out. Then I tried my spare motor. None of this seemed to make a difference.

While I was doing this I noticed a strange sound coming from the motor when I give it a small amount of throttle and hold it. The sound starts out at a lower frequency and rises to a higher frequency and holds it there. It sounds just like a camera flash charging. The time it takes to get to the higher frequency is about the same amount of time it hesitates.

I have an old Novak 410-HPc ESU and it is something I was planning to replace, maybe that time is now?

Any input would be great. Anyone got a brushed ESU thy would sell?

Thanks Neil.

Some more details would be nice.

Such as, brushed or brushless?  It sounds like it's brushed, as you mention a Novak 410-HPC.

So, the issue follows the speed controller, right?

If you're running old-school brushed technology, the issue might be a torque limiter adjustment on your speed controller.  Crank it to max -- they're not needed any more with modern batteries.

Yes it is brushed. I don't have a torque limiter but did try adjusting the current limiter and other settings on it with no change.

A torque limiter and current limiter are two terms for the same thing.

Try it turned all the way one way, then all the way the other way.
