I am trying to figure out the motor requirements. So it was 27T but now is 17T brushless. Does that include anything in between 17T and 27T? Could you run a 20-23T brushed?

The 20-23t brushed motors might be faster then the 17t brushless motor so it might be a problem to do it all the time. I'm sure someone in the club can come up with a 27T brushed motor for you cheep or even free.

gotnitro

I have 1 or 2 I don't need.

What about the 27 from the club car. Was it motor or esc that blew up. I have abtelin 17.5 you can use if your esc does brushless

Blake

If you already own a 20-23T brushed motor, go ahead and throw it in your car.  It will be fine for now.

I was asking because at this time I can't afford to make the jump to brushless. My car came with a stock motor that is a 27T but it seems painfully slow. I am pretty sure I set it up right. I was just wondering about what was allowed.
I feel like I am back at school it's a lot to learn. Lipo's, brushless, sensors, temp guns and crazy chargers. The last time I had an RC you just plugged the battery in and turned a dial....  :D Hell when I borrowed the loaner it was the first time I used a ESC and the first time I've drivin in a decade. LOL I feel old now.

I believe  27T brushed motor with the right gearing is ok to start on. So try for a FDR of around 6.8 to start If you go below 6 your going to toast the motor

what size is the spur gear on the car?

valk

Painfully slow is fine until you can get around the track with minimal bumps. 27t 6.5:1? i have my 8t at 10:1.. and it only gets warm?

My gear ratio right now is 8.35 (stock). 19T pinion and 61T spur gear. I could pull the motor out of my wrecked buggy to see what the pinion is and I have a lot of different Tamiya spur gears. I take it I should try lowering the gear ratio?

I would run it for about 3 mins and if it is still not to hot gear it up bit

from gear chart, 25-27 pinions would work with your spur well. if it fits that is. i have a 27/30 48p if you wanna try.

Gord is in the ballbark with the suggested 6.8 final drive ratio.  By my math, that would be a 23t pinion for you.  I'm sure someone has one that you can borrow to try it out.

Hope to see you next Sunday!

23 to start is what I would do

Ok so I ran into Glen today and showed him my car. Apparently my 27T motor is not the kind of 27T motors you (we) use. I have 27T Mabuchi that came with my car. So it is completely different.  :o ok So Glen was nice enough to provide me with a bunch of pieces that when engineered together somehow create a motor (Just kidding thanks a lot Glen) with a somewhat confusing demo. Just when I think I begin to understand.......LOL. Ok so I do have a motor thanks everyone. After that I guess it's figuring out the gearing.

I will see you all Sunday and hopefully I will have this figured out.

Ya sorry about the rushed crash course on the motor. I have taken a picture cause after I left I forgot to put one of the brushes back in so you could see it again. I have taken a photo and will see if it attaches here so you can see what i meant. Like I said before if you dont get it done dont worry just show up on Sunday and I am sure we can get it going in no time. But change the comm that I gave you and install the new brushes if you get a chance. The more prepared you are able to be by the time you get to the track the less time it will take to get you up and running.

Good Luck
