So I'm in Seattle smoking cigars thinking about racing this Sunday. So disappointed that there's no racing this Sunday. Oh we'll just when the cars are running great. See you on the 28th.

I'll be there on the 28th and the 4th if we race both days, got to get more than 2 days racing in before we take off again.

BigDawg

I was ready to race this weekend! I guess it will be the 28th then.
We need to get it together. This year has been the most sundays we have ever booked off and we still cant get enough guys out to race the days that were suppose to race!

Indoors wasnt any better! Atleast a 1/3 of a saturday night came from nanaimo and they are not going to race indoors well there still racing outdoors!!
If everyone keeps going offroad on the days irocc is suppose to race there wont be an irocc to race at much longer!
Offroad is fun! But its going to be the death of onroad! If it keeps going this way!

Its getting difficult to justify spending $$$$ on stuff that sits and collects dust! Because we cant get enough people out to race.

Hate to say it, but I agree with Doug.   Its getting harder to justify the expense when its sits in the basement un-used.       Its not just our club having lower turnouts though, right across North America on-road racing has been taking a back seat to off-road.   The only onroad class that's taking off right now is 1/12, and F1.  I think the F1 is just a fad that will fade away though. (But I do want one)

We definitely need to race more, all the money I have been spending on Golf this year is putting me in the poor house!!

If "EVERYONE" goes off road?? Really? How many guys are we talking? Gord and Neil are the ONLY two regular IROCC guys to race COR once in a while. Get your facts straight before you go slinging blame elsewhere...

BCbud

Since I started racing 4 years ago, the turnout for IROCC has constantly gone down each year. After Speed Weekend the turnout has been really bad. My main class I like to run is WGT and that has been hit or miss at best.

So go to IROCC and maybe race 1 class with the slight chance of racing 2 or race 2 or 3 classes of off road.... You know the answer.

Neil.

PS: I have been told by an IROCC Exec that I am part of the problem. So be it, at least I am racing and having fun. and didn't IROCC start out as a off road club?

I think we should end this thread now.  Every sport has its highs and lows. Its a cyclical thing.   5-6 years ago on road was king, now its back to off-road.   I am pretty sure in another 3-4 years on-road will make a come back. I also believe that Off-Road will bring racers to IROCC, when they decide off-road is getting boring, and are looking for a new challenge.

At a time when EVERY car counts on the track, getting into a stupid flame war on the irocc site is not going to help anything.   The IROCC Exec, or the club as a whole needs to have a sit down and figure out the direction we should go in.  Personally I would like to see the car classes cut down until we get more racers. The different classes (mainly WGT, and 18R) we have thinned out the field to much.

Or maybe IROCC doesn't need to change at all. Like I said in a previous post, on-road NA wide is on the down turn.  Off-road in NA has become very popular.    In other parts of the world (like Peru and CHile) 1/8th On-Road Nitro and 1/5 GT OnRoad  has been on the rise.

Either way, my stuff is ready to race. .  Just let me know where and when.

Wow! Mick your a little touchy! But for your info i have my facts straight as an arrow!
The facts are some irocc members choose offroad racing instead of onroad! On an irocc race day! And no its not just two! As far as i can remeber you use to be an onroad guy and now race offroad! How about don i beleive he is racing offroad and i havent seen him at any irocc races. On top of gord and neil and lets not forget the many other irocc members that attend offroad races such as myself , blake ,gerry, glen.

Now the ones that choose to attend an offroad race at either cor or nanaimo on an irocc race day cant say forsure who they are and it doesnt really matter for the purpose of this post!
The FACT is shawn is correct its not just happening here it happens all over and its not just now its happened throughout RC racing history! People are always drawn to offroad! And for good reason its a blast and usually people dont think much of it its just a couple race days at a different track and absolutly nothing wrong with it!
But the FACT is eventually as it ALWAYS has in the past will lead to the destruction of onroad racing! If club memebers are not committed to the club they are in!

I dont even want to begin to assume why you would take such a great offence to the fact that offroad racing has killed onroad racing many many times in the past and will do it many more times in the future and if us as irocc members are not carful it will happen to irocc!

Facts that can not be denied is offroad racing has killed many onroad racing clubs
Offroad racing is alot of fun and usually has zero track set up or teardown witch is appealing to alot of people
Irocc attendance has declined since the offroad boom started
And irocc attendance is so poor these days we have only set up our full track once other then speed weekend
The only person to take offence to any of this now races offroad and not onroad!

This post is not to say offroad isnt fun and it is not to say that anyone should not go offroad racing or that their is anything wrong with offroad racing or that their is anything wrong with choosing to race at cor or in nanaimo anytime they choose.
I myself like to race in nanaimo as much as i can! And enjoy it very much!

This post is only to say that if irocc members are not carful and do not support the club as much as they can specially on race days by attending there will not be an irocc  club to race with!!!!!

If the fact that i would like to make sure that irocc is here for many years to come so i can race onroad! Is offensive because you like offroad! Too bad i could care less.

Members we are going through a phase that's all. I personally enjoy nitro a lot and won't ever stop. Just let this run its course.

This month it really is as simple as too many senior members being out of town and not enough people who run the computer ect ect.  we would have 8 if we were lucky for most of these weeks. if enough racers want to race this sunday we could possibly put something together.

The turnouts have sucked lately, but I dont think it is as simple as blaming offroad. Sure, offroad is fun and has a much lower commitment level than irocc's typical race program but it comes with its own drawbacks, work parties for instance ha.
There are a handful of people we are losing to offroad atm, but many of the people not racing with us don't offroad. so other factors in their lives are keeping them away.
I understand as i only race outdoor twice/monthly out of respect for my wife and daughter. I usually arrive at 8:30 and don't get home until around 6. that is basically another work day.

I dont have a solution to the setup/teardown problem though the minimal setup we have done lately has been working. Personally, id forget most of the boards and ropes and just driver slower so you dont hit them ha.

getting mad at people wanting to offroad wont solve any problems. if anything, we should be banding with cor to create a south island rc club that promotes each others events. cor went straight to nanaimo for that creating clash of the clubs which is highly successful so far.
I wouldn't expect a lot of them to come over to us but with this us vs them mentality, we pretty much shoot ourselves when trying to fish racers to try the pavement.
Colaboration on scheduling with less conflicts would be my goal there. or irocc should focus less on weekly club races and more on monthly/twice monthly events to try to drum up some enthusiasm.

Collaboration with cor might also lead to vendors like west shore rc carrying onroad stuff. Telling people they have to order online or from matt in nanaimo is a little unreasonable for most of the people who come check us out and ask how to get into it. if people can see it and touch it, they are much more likely to buy it.

I do agree somewhat to simplifying our race program though. 4 classes is too much for 10-15 bodies we are getting now. id say drop down to one electric and one nitro class, or if it helps to get more people coming out, id shelve the nitro car and focus on one electric if needed. we could do what we have done indoors, run nitro once/month like we did with 10.5.

My ideas are typically not received well so ill just show up when there is racing and do my part. this sunday ill be going to cor to mess around. could go to the parking lot around 10-11 to mess with the touring car if anyone else wanted a body to race with.

Yep. Not well received. ;).. Love Nitro... Nitro is fun.   Its a pain in the ass, but its a lot fun, and with the restricted speeds of touring 17.5 (Which I think is a good thing), Nitro offers others the extra complexity in car setup and driving that makes it a challenge.

Nah, its not offroad. It actually all started when I moved away.

please get it sorted for next year.

Dudes it goes in waves.. Always has.. Attendance goes thru the roof for a few years, drops off, comes back....

I myself found I had more fun running offroad. I wasn't stressing about hittin the perfect line, or having tires with a extra couple weeks of runtime on them, or having the latest greatest battery or motor that month.. Just found it for enjoyable..

How can you blame someone for doin what they enjoy? It's a hobby afterall..
What about the people that don't come out? Are you goin to single then out because they have other things goin on?

Hers a fun fact to put it in perspective...if I wreck my real racecar, it's cheaper to fix then my xray touring car..And cheaper on tires to run for the summer then my nitro car..
