Well it looks like ROAR is up too there "lets tell no one and take an already approved motor off the list" again. It was well known that the D3.5 17.5 would be taken off the list s of April 1st but it was not known that the D3.5 10.5 and 13.5 would be removed at the same time that I am aware of. O well, I have 2 motors that are fairly new and are suddenly not legal any more.

Now on another note, the Turnigy TrackStar 17.5T  is now ROAR approved as is the complete line of TrackStar red can motors.

If IROCC is thinking about using a spec motor next year for touring stock, I would vote on this one. I do not think you can get more bang for the buck on other ROAR approved motors.

I will be replacing my D3.5's with TrackStare motors for shure and probably get a 17.5 to try in my touring car for this year as well.

thats a pretty sweet deal. Ill bet that is 100% Reedy so should perform pretty nice.
nice that they are now officially approved. if we proceed on that spec motor thing, which i honestly kind of hope we dont, we should have a word with solara on rctech though.
I think id trust a $32 speed passion over a $32 turnigy at least as far as warranty support goes.
all the business about d3.5 has definitely taken trinity OFF my radar for motors in the future. lots of very good ones to choose from though.

What kind of warranty would you try and claim on a $32 motor? Shipping there and back for ether motor would almost equal the cost of a new one.

I don't know, we will have to see, don't know where you guys are racing anymore lol, I was called a cheater before it was approved so maybe just leave this year on a low note and try something else not so regulated lol.

who actually called you a cheater? lol.

This club has tightened the noose so tight with these massively restrictive rules I'm seriously considering selling this touring car before I've even put a speed control in....

You guys need to go the OPPOSITE way if you want to encourage people to race more.

Open up club racing to ANY motor you want, keep the battery restricted to two cells and enforce your tire rule, but for gosh sakes lose the motor rule COMPLETELY for club racing...

Seriously.....

Sorry to jack your thread Neil. But I was looking back on our website for points from last year and I couldn't find them. I wanted to see who was making it so expensive that we needed to have a tire rule to "lower racers costs" I understand I was not at the meeting and I chose not to but with the tire rule we have put in technically I could buy a new pack of batteries every couple of weeks and or a new motor every week and probably be faster than  you are with your one of three sets of tires. I don't know what the answer is or what happened from before but it never seemed this restricted and it seemed pretty close. Hell until summer speed weekend most of my tires were worn out during the summer as they were the winter weekend tires, that was cheaper for me and I enjoyed racing every weekend. Seems to me something has changed it from the low cost club we used to be, to a more than highly competitive hobby that we all laugh and know are only toy cars. Even though we all know this is not a cheap hobby either. If I was on the outside looking to get into the hobby I would not have a clue what to get and would only see more and more dollar signs over time. The fast are gonna be fast and the for fun members are gonna be that but the line is blurring and moving more and more apart over these last few years. Everyone has to set their own budget for their race team.
Just my .02 for what it's worth. Again sorry Neil.

id love to run open motor but people would just break their cars, get frustrated and stop coming.

Not trying to speak for Mick, but pretty sure he just meant any 17.5 Nick, not mod ones.

To me, open motor means run what you brung.open 17.5 would be clearer i think.
Honestly, i could care less what you guys bring out to the track as long as you show up. run a 4.5 for all i care, if you think you can drive it faster than a 17.5 even at speed weekend the amain modified was only 1 second faster than amain stock heh. one of those guys was roar national champ ha.

Its all about fun. Lets try to keep it fun so people want to come out and do the thing. I belive there should be some validity to roar rules as our twice annual events reflect that level of competition but at the same time for club racing who cares lol.

all these concerns should have been talked about at the meeting, off the internet. so next meeting would be great if we could set it up so more people could come and get more broad opinion.

run that trackstar. i dont care if it has 10ga wire in it, run it anyway.

MickSz

Thanks Glenn, but I meant ANY motor, 5 turn if you want. You learn pretty quickly how fast you can go and you slow down. I highly doubt anyone would put in a mod motor, drive straight into the wall and then never come out again, lol. You learn to manage your speed, and for the beginner that comes out, HELP him understand that you can only go so fast, don't just look down your nose at a new guy for not "being with the program"....

The point I was trying to make is, to be truly competitive in blinky class you have to be an engineer and have a massive bank account to run 17.5 blinky class. People lighten their cars with exotic materials and expensive aftermarket bits and pieces and run a dusting of colour on their ultra light weight bodies and call that a paint job. Like someone said, the fast guys are gonna be the fast guys regardless, but when you have some new guy come out and he got a 10.5 with his used car, you're gonna turn him away because it's not "ROAR" legal, and hence, you've lost another potential member.

How about the hardcore blinky stock guys save being hardcore blinky stock guys for the TWO WEEKENDS A YEAR WHERE IT MATTERS, and have fun, open CLUB racing the rest of the time, at least until you have enough new guys coming out to warrant splitting back up into two classes, or a such time as the NEW guys think it's time to even the playing field? Don't pull up the old argument of "this worked well the past" because that doesn't wash any longer. It's not the same situation as the past...This has become an elitist gathering of old time racers that are not open to change...Open your eyes and look where the club is right now...

Think about it......

valk

I dont really agree with that lots of money to be competitive.. my plastic $85 car handled outdoors just fine last year on a $65 brushless package was on track to tq at QA. yea it wasnt as reliable as a $600 xray but meh.
as with any sport, practice is the most important ingredient.

but thread is getting off track, ive contributed, but i wont any more. thanks for the link neil, very nice to see ANOTHER cheaper option. if its anything like the reedy its undoubtedly a copy of, it should be a pretty good motor.

Not coming to the general meeting is the same as not voting in an election. If you don't vote, don't bitch about the results.
