I'm needing some advice on a decent tire truer. If anyone has some input, it would be greatly appreciated.

Some of the questions that are rolling around in my mind:

1. Automatic vs. Manual    The difference is obvious, just wondering if a cheaper manual one will be good enough.

2. Blade vs. Rasp vs. Cutter    Which will give the better finish

3. Arbours   Need one that will accept 1/12 and 1/10 obviously

4. Brands   Got one that you're happy with?, please don't say HUDY..... Chris

5. Power Supply   Again, obvious, but does one give you better performance

Thanks guys, Damon

Tom

Some notes:

The finish you get on your tires doesn't really matter.  It'll be worn off within the first run or two anyway.

Automatic is easier than manual.  That's about it.  With tire truers, the final diameter you get is influenced by the feed rate, so if you're not careful, you will get a better result with the automatic than a manual feed.  However, if you're careful at all, you can get a fine result if you use a consistent feed rate.

As far as the cutter goes, I have no opinion.  I'm sure they are all sufficient.

As far as the power supply goes, as long as it provides sufficient power, it'll work fine. This is one reason why lots of club members advocate getting a bench power supply to run your chargers from rather than opting for a more expensive charger model that plugs into the wall -- you can use your bench supply to power tire truers and other goodies in addition to your battery charger.  Failing that, an automotive battery is an excellent, albeit very inconvient substitute.
