Great idea letting everyone know ahead of time and on the flip side now Brent has lots of time to plan to come down and support our Speed Weekend race as well - right on!

Yep for sure, but keep in mind that the Kamloops club is a lot smaller than us, and they have quite a few younger members.  It would be hard for them to mobilize a crew like we normally send to races.

That said, hopefully at least Brent, Rick, Doug, and one of the Jasons can head over here next summer!

I've always gone to other races because I've wanted to go myself, not out of some obligation to attend.

I don't want people to come to our summer race because they feel they have to -- I want people to come to our race because they want to.

Likewise, I'd enjoy myself much more if I went to a race in another town because I wanted to, not because I felt I "should" or that I owe them my attendance or was otherwise obliged.

Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to attend this race (as some may have noted, I haven't done a whole lot of racing this summer season), but I definately would like to.  I'd like to because it was fun last time I went, not because of how many people from that region decided to run at a race someplace else.

Ok here it goes, Mike Watson my bud from Edmonton is gonna meet us in Kamloops cause he cant get enough of kicking our butts. So I am  on the phone right now with him, and he is beaking off about kicking me down a notch cause of my swelled ego from past race days. So anyone got room for a couple of totes to goto Kamloops with if I get them shipped here? Then he will have no excuse why I beat him there. He figures if he beats me he has beaten evveryone , I wonder where he got an idea like that from, makes ya wonder huh...lmao....cya all Sunday.

the wife and Mike have spoken and are talking about flying direct to here, and then catching a ride up with us if there is room, he is booking the friday and monday off so he could do it all. Any takers on one more passenger and two totes. He would have his stuff shipped here and then fly down and get a ride up with the Irocc club, and then fly out on the monday or the Sunday night.

Let's try and get this a little more organized. Who is going and with who are you going, discussions today led me to believe that some people are already set with rides, etc. Please post if you are going and if you already have your rides set.
I am going and am willing to take my truck, I have room for lots of gear and up to 3 riders.

The city of Kamloops paid for those tracks; same as the previous ones they had at a different location.  They just had some diplomatic figures in their organization that approached the municipality to come up with some sort of plan.

There's nothing stopping us from trying this in Victoria, but it takes someone to actually *do* something rather than just talk about it like we usually do.

Oh, and property values in this part of the world might hurt our chances too....

All right, phoned around as promised.  Generally no problems getting rooms in Kamloops at that time.

Rates are based on getting 6 rooms, double occupancy (ie, group rates) for two nights.  Some staff gave "special" discounts so the rates might fluctuate a bit depending on who answers the reservation phone next time.

The following is a revised post to one Blake gave last year.
---------------------------------

All of the following Hotels/Motels are for a single room with 2 beds for 2 people, taxes not included. Most have pools and hot tubs.  Rates are per room/night unless indicated.

These accomdations are 10-12 minutes from the track.

4 Points Sheriton $250/2 days (limited availability) (250) 374-4144
Super 8 $109/2 nights (not sure about that rate) 1-800 800-8000
Mavrick Motor Inn $69 (1-4 people/room OK) 1-800 668-6899
Alpine Motel $89 1-800 270-1260

These accomodations are only 5 minutes from the track.

Econolodge $no answer (250) 372-8533
Ranchland Motel $75 1-800 663-4902
Trans Canada Motel $69 (Mike gave special rate) 1-800 374-5755
Country View Motor Inn $89 rack or $75 special rate  1-800 213-6673
Kings Motor Inn $71 1-800 661-6630
Thriftlodge $70 1-800 525-9055 (direct 250-374-2488)
Lamplighter Motel $no answer 1-800 563-7401

Didn't reserve at this time.  Based on phone calls alone, I'd vote for the Country View.

Hey, D. You know, I simply can't recall. I think you could call the Tim Horton's and ask where the big bad guy with too much stuff to order (J) was staying. Honestly, it escapes me.

Hey, Bruce.

Yes, thanks for doing this. Last year we were all side by side (except for one unlucky sap stuck in between us all) and on the ground floor. This made for great loading/unloading of equipment. It would be great if Ranchlands could swing that again when you make the reservation but you'll need to ask! Please let us know if you would like to have cash up front to help with securing the reservation. Thanks again.

So far I figure we have-
1- Craig, Jody& Kurk riding with Kurk
2- Doug, Glen, Gerry and Mike? riding with Gerry
3- Phil, Brian, Blake, Mick, Pat, Ken and Daryl riding with Blake and Daryl.
4- Bruce on holidays meeting us there but needing to split a room with somebody.
Have I forgotten anyone? Rob and Nick, Ox, Tom, are any of you going to make it?

Ok, then Daryl, it looks like it's you, me, Mick, and Pat in your truck.  If we can convince Tom to come along we can "upgrade" to my van.

So I count an even 8 rooms then (Craig indicated he wanted his own) with Daryl's list.

Unknown's would be Shane and Don M at this point?  I'll phone Don for confirmation.

I'll book those tomorrow late morning unless I hear otherwise ... and I'll ask for ground floor units.  Night of the 14th, night of the 15th.

Usually two to a room.  Three is doable but slower in the morning with three showers needed, and also someone has to sleep on the floor or in a cot.

Ground level rooms are reserved at the Ranchland for September 14 and 15.

Pam was happy to accommodate us and shuffled some other reservations around to get us the ground floor units.

My CC is holding my split room.  She asked that other rooms' occupiers phone in a CC to attach to their shared room by September 7th.  Now I don't mind attaching my CC to all the rooms, but this way I figure we get some wiggle room if someone needs to back out, or for some reason doesn't agree with their name being on Daryl's list.

Unless I hear otherwise, I'll attach my CC to the outstanding rooms mid-next week.  I would appreciate those who can, to phone in their own CC's though -- 1-800-663-4902.  Its under IROCC.

My CC wasn't charged, so there is no need for money up front.

This is odd. Take it from someone who is in a different hotel every week, that the administrator simply reserves a deposit on the card but does not charge it through, and when checking in the card details are taken. This is what I just did with the event for this weekend. I called and left the card number to reserve the room but no charge was applied. At a recent conference, I made a booking for 685 people for three nights and used my cc to secure the reservation. Each person is responsible for their own payment and when checking in simply presents the card.

Not a worry though. I am happy to do this. It's just peculiar and an anomaly.

Thanks for the leg work, Bruce.

Yeah, I had a bit of a headache after that phone call alright!  I can see where its a strong system though, as now individuals are responsible for themselves, and not "the organizer".  Like I said, I'll put the CC down for people that need it.

No worries Phil.

Hey guys and gals....I appologize for the delay in getting info out to you this year.  I have been super busy with promoting our club and organizing our participation in our local downtown show and shine.  We drew a big crowd last weekend at our annual event and hopefully it will spark some new interest in our rather small RC community.  It's a shame that RC is 90% backyard bashers and the other 10% race?  Look what these guys are missing??

Anyway, thanks for your patience and here are the details and updates.  I have been meaning to put Hotel/Motel options and prices up here for you but it looks like you guys already have this part figured out.

Dates

The dates are September 14th to 16th and we hope for this race to be even bigger and better than last year. Practice will be open on Friday, September 14th from 12:00 noon to dusk. Qualifying on Saturday, September 15th with at least 3 rounds, time permitting. Possable 1 more round of qualifying on Sunday morning followed by Triple A-Mains. Nitro A-Mains will be 30 Mins. B-Mains will be 20 Mins.

Classes

All Touring Car classes will be in full support. These will include: TC Mod, TC Stock, TC 19T, TC Novice, TC Nitro and a 19T Pro-10 Class. TC's will be limited to 4 door sedan body shells. TC Mod can use any brushed or brushless motor. TC 19 Turn must have locked endbells. TC Mod and 19T Pro-10 will be allowed the use of a Factory Sealed, Hard Case Lipo Cell if so desired.

Entry Fees

First Class $35
Second Class $25
Third Class $10

Maximum of 3 classes.

Additional Info:

IFMAR Qualifying
Minimum of 4 cars per class
AMB Digital RC Transponders including personals in full support.
RC Scoring Pro Race Program will be used.
Concors (Sweetest Body Shell!)

Hot Swag....Cool Hardware......Don't Miss It!!

Dude I'm only running two classes this year if that.  Depends if our batteries ever show up.  Nitro is a no-go - can't get the thing to run without eating gears - not that there are any gears to use on it anyhow.  I still owe Rob and Gerry gears let alone one's for myself.

Argh racing is frustrating.... sometimes.... I must be an R/C sadist... or is that masicist.... probably both....

i do hope all the computer problems will be worked out before we get there this year!

I just found out that Doug Papka from SIR will be coming up to run this race.  I've been to two of his races in the past, and he definitely knows what he's doing from a timing software standpoint.

It's great that Doug is coming to run the race, it saves a lot of headaches for the organizers. But what it doesn't save is the cost for race fees, as is evidenced by the cost of their fees compared to ours.

Yea $70 is kind of a kick in the nuts considering the cost to get there.  When you add to that gas, ferry, hotel, food, hundreds of nitro spur gears.....

The Smackdown was $35 for three classes for out-of-towners.  Makes the rest of the expense of the trip a little more palatable...

It's the triple A mains that suck. You figure there's Stock,Mod,19 turn, and Pro 10 that will have triple A mains. That's twelve races to run in one day,not including B's,C's,novice,AND the gas races. How could they possibly say there "may"be another qualifier on sunday.Triple A mains are alright if your in them, but not if you make the A in stock and19t. It's way to hectic ,your usually back to back or it's race ,corner ,race. Then there's the poor schmo enters one class ,doesn't make the A , he gets to sit around all day to race once , all for the same price. It's a bad system, by that I mean ,how are the not so great racers supposed to get any better when all the "A" guys are bogarting all the track time?
OOPs,did I say that out loud?

There may not be another qualifier on the Sunday....time will tell.  As for the triple A-Mains, you can please some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time.  As for accomodating time, we always consider you folks down on the Island and make every effort to get you on the road in time to make the ferry on the Sunday....just ask Blake.

As for the race itself, you can pre-register here or email me if you like.

Thanks and see you at the track.

Yep, very true.  Even with with timing software problems last year, we were on the road by 4PM which got us on the last boat fairly easily.

See ya in three weeks Brent!
