When is the Kamloops race and is there a link for it?  Anyone else going?  My wife said maybe I can go if I take the garbage out.  I told her I've already had enough garbage...

Hmmm.  My wife would rather I go out with her rather than have me go for a date with the garbage. . .

www.rctech.net has a link somewhere. They (kamloops) dont have a website.

I am going and I think Craig is as well. I have a flyer somewhere I will post it if I find it

Ok, they do have an old web page with the same contact info as RCtech.  Their track looks nice!

They have a nice overpass and there are lots of grocery stores in town so you don't even have to bring your own cardboard!

Right on - the more the merrier.  I think we have Craig, Jody and myself so far.  I think transportation is our main concern right now.  Sounds like we can get a hotel for $50 ish a night.  I'm trying to see if I can get a better deal - just waiting on a reply for that.

Just getting the hotel info for you guys coming to Kamloops...it's being posted on the Fall Classic site on RCtech and I'll try to get it here as well.

Also we sprayed the track with sugar water for the first time on Sunday and with great results. We will be doing it for the race as well.
This was our first time trying it and all the members were very surprised on how much better the traction was :)

See you Friday.

Jody I may have to pit since the three of us going up are all driving Nitro - this could be interesting...  any volunteer pit crews up there?

I'll be running Nitro, Stock and Sportsman (since I'm a newbie).  Can I run my brushless in Sportsman or Modified?  Its a ROAR legal brushless SS 5800.

I would think the brushless 5800 would be for the mod class. Even on the stock mode it's faster than a stock.

Sure we could find someone to help pit

Hey Doug,

When are you thinking of going?  I'd like to go as well but I really should go to work on Friday so I'd like to leave late Friday afternoon, or Friday evening.  That way we might be able to include Jarrod as well....

Also, do you have a car (full size) that we could take?  Hotels shouldn't be a big problem I wouldn't think.  $50/night is cheap.  Or, I'm sure we could just sleep on the floor in Jody's room....

Let me know,
Blake

I don't think its too late - we are still trying to figure out our transportation up there.  I was trying to get a 15 passenger van but I can't get it till Friday after 5:30 so that's out.  I'm going to see if I can get my dad's truck.  He uses it all the time so I didn't bother asking but we're starting to get desperate....  its a short box (more than enough room) with bench seats so lots of room in the front and less leg room in the back...

Doug, I *might* be able to get my parent's van for the trip.  Otherwise we're riding in my Pony I guess.  Should be fun on the Coca Cola....  At least it's cheap on gas.

What time do you want to leave on Friday?  I'd be down with catching the 4PM boat.  What do you think?

Jarrod, you in?

OK, I've got the truck so we will be able to make it up - yay!  I've got room to take some stuff up.  I'll pick it up tomorow eve.  I think we are leaving around 7:00 or so Friday morning.  I could have got the camper as well but I'd rather just stay in a hotel since they are pretty cheap and I'd probably save that on gas from hauling the thing over the Coca Cola....

Hey Jarrod,

What time can you be ready to go on Friday afternoon?  Doug and I are leaving Victoria and heading for the ferry at 2:45PM.

Also, if you have a table you'll want to get it to Kurk tomorrow because we won't have room for it in the Pony.

Woohoo!  Sounds like we doubled our group from three to six racers.  If you have anything you need in the truck drop it off at my place or Craig's (which are about two blocks from each other).  I'll head over to Craig's around 9:00 PM to load the truck tomorow night.

Cool dude.  Doug Ball is going to get in touch with you so that he can drop off some of his stuff tomorrow night.  Do either you or Craig have a pit table I can borrow?  If so, could you load it in with your stuff for me please....  Pretty please....

Thanks, I'm in Sidney tomorrow night and can't make it out your way.

I just have the one table.  I think Craig is going to see if he can get Jody's table.  Dunno if there are any others around....  if not we can always share.  What classes are you running?

Normally I'd offer to pick it up but we've got "meet the teachers" tomorow night so its gonna be chaos at our house until 8:30 or so then I'll go pick the truck up....

I've got a couple options for tables.

There's the big table I brought to Van.  That's likely too big; it's an 8 foot table, and I heard it's a short-box that's going to be hauling stuff.

I also have a door that's been made into a table that my parents are using; this might fit into a short-box; I'm not sure.  If a normal door fits into a normal short-box, you may want to borrow it; otherwise they're both too big.

Practice starts Friday at 2pm till 7pm.

Like Brent said bring your extension cords and tables and chairs. Power is available.

We will be pitting in the lower part by the on-road driver's stand. No parking is allowed in the back unless you need to use your battery off your vehicle but you should not need to as power is available.

Last time Blake was here they pitted where the off-road track is now...can't do that any more. There's lots of pit space.

So please drive in and drop off your gear and park your vehicle back out front of the arena. Thanks.

What time do you need to be back at the Ferry Sunday? We want to be done early enough Sunday for you guys.

Personally I'd like to shoot for the 9:00 just in case we don't make the 9:00 we can get the 10:00.  I'm using my dad's truck which I need to return Sunday night.  I'm not so concerned about droping it off at 1:00 am (by the time we unload all the stuff) - just want to make sure I get it back before Monday 6:00 am....

Its a 4 hour drive to the ferry and that's pushing it.  We probably need to get there at least 30 minutes before the 9:00 leaves.  If we were done and driving out by 4:00 that would give us a little lee way - we may even be able to go the speed limit back!  That way we won't need to stop and pick up a box of doughnuts... JK ;)

Hey guy's just to let you know just incase you miss your ferries.  there is a 1045 that runs up to Nanaimo.  It's a bit of a pain for the extra driving but you will still make it back to the island Sunday night.  Just my 0.02

That doesn't get me home from driving from Nanaimo to Vic, droping the gear off, droping the truck off and driving home till 2 AM or later.... as much of a night hawk that I am I'd rather not get back that late after a few long days in a row...

OK Kamploops was interesting, only about 20-25 guys showed up including 7 from vic and about 7 from van. That was OK because the talent was good and we still raced LOTS! The kamloops guys were also very nice and knew how to run a race. Everyone got along well.

I am pretty sure I TQ'd in the following calsses, 19Turn, 27Turn and Nitro. I also won all three classes, I had a good weekend.\

actually, I only raced nitro and finished last although I did make the A-main (only one main in nitro, stock and novice). Kurk had the highest finishing spot in nitro of all the IROCCers. It was a 45 minute main. I dont think my 600mAh receiver pack would even go that long, I didnt have to find out and broke at the 11 minute mark. Craig was fast enough to win but his reciever pack didnt make it and he lost control of the throttle servo. WHile he was running he had better lap times than the leaders and was en route to catch them no problem. Craig had problems in the first few laps and had to play catch up right off the bat. None the less he dropped out before the end as his AAA reciever pack just didnt have the electrons to go that long. Craig only had 3 run-away nitro cars this weekend ( I remember when I first started in nitro) and was having nitro electrical problems all weekend. Blake didnt get his car going until after the race started and then he had engine difficulties again and dropped out. Doug (Dog) was up and down the drivers stand stairs about 10 times during the main, he finished 6th.

In 19 Turn I forget what happened exactly, Keith Yue from Van was untouchable, he is as smooth as glass and had more horespower than anyone else. Sorry Blake I forget where you finished although blake did get a trophy (towel actually) . In Stock, Craig TQ'd in the 7th and last qualifier (yes we had 7 qualifiers since we had only 6 heats of cars in 4 classes including 4 guys in novice class). Craig was running second and third in the first half of the Stock A main (only one stock main) and then got by for the lead and never looked back. There were a couple of fast drivers (rick and Jason) from Kamloops that really gave Craig a run all weekend.

In novice Kurk was winning but got screwed up by a back marker and lost the race. You cant really get mad at the backmarkers as this was novice class and that is what it was there for. The kid that did take out Kurk from the lead (twice) was pretty fast and if he sticks with the hobby / sport he will be a force in the future.

The facility in Kamloops has alot going for it, a couple of drawbacks but overall a very nice place. The track layout was tight and narrow in nitro car standards but a reasonable size overall. There were more or less no dividers at all between lanes but that was OK as the level of driving was quite good. The corner dots were mmmassive. If you got more than a corner of a dot you were "leaving the park". Of course onkly people hitting the dots complained about them, although I think everyone in our club "left the park" in huge fassion. The outside walls were just PVC tubing so they didnt really keep the cars retained but it is usually a non-issue in kamloops as they dont have alot of newbie drivers and they dont get spectators (well 1 or 2 but not 100-300 like we do every week). The track surface looked very cool with all the lanes painted up. It makes it very easy to see the track in front of you. However the surface is sinking in a few spots, like right in the middle of the sweeper at the end of the straight-away which made a huge trench that would send a car airborn. There were at least 3 other spots like this on the track. It was an issue early but as we learned where not to drive it became less of an issue. Electric cars also had more difficulty with the bumps than nitro cars. Traction was pretty weak most of the weekend but was just OK by the main events and you could finaly see a groove after the mains..

Nitro tuning was a good lesson. The higher altitide definatley made a difference and power across the board seemed low. The temperature would also swing significantly when the clouds obstructed the sun. It was hot in the open sun, cool in the shade and downright cold at night and in the morning.

The away from track time was interesting as usual, Fantetti putting on a good performance!! It is always good to have a fantetti along for the ride, never boring. We also got pissed off at Boston Pizza and left to go elsewhere. Kamlooops BP you suck!

SO anyway, I would go back to this race if we had a good commitment from more IROCCers,

I will have a slide show to music of the race by Wednesday night, stay tuned. I will also post all of my pictures. Thank you to the Kamloops crew for hosting and to the van guys (and girl) for showing up. Thanx angie for announcing and to Kurk for getting a vehicle worthy of hauling everyones stuff up the mountainside.also thank-you to shaye for putting up with us and running pit support all weekend.

Yep, a fun road trip for sure!  Thanks to the "Thrift Lodge" for putting up with our (Kurk's, Jody's, and Rob's) drunken antics.  Sorry to anyone that was staying in adjacent rooms....

Thanks to Jarrod and Rob for pitting for us gas guys all weekend long.  Although the gas main turned into a complete disaster for most of us it was still a lot of fun.

Racing was fun even with the low turnout.  The Kamloops club has an awesome attitude and everyone is extremely friendly and helpful there.  This was my third race in Kamloops and they've always impressed me with their level of organization and preparedness.  Kamloops is also the only place I've ever raced outdoor and never seen a drop of rain.

They had three "kids" in the races all with some very decent skill.  It'd be nice if we could find a couple more kids to give Tyler and Cody some company here at IROCC.

The Pony performed amazingly well.  It easily handled most of the Coca Cola's climbs in 4th gear at about 100km/h.  "Radiator Hill" required 3rd gear but that was about it.  I forgot to latch the hatchback after packing the car so the hatch opened up on us as we were climbing out of Kamloops.  Thanks to Jarrod we managed to pull it closed without having to stop and lost all our momentum.  Of course Dave Palmer from Vancouver had to pass us at that exact moment....  Oh well, we used about 1/3 the gas of anyone else who made the trip I'm sure.  Total gas bill was $75.

A big thanks to all the guys up in Kamloops.  Everything was well organized and we kept the momentum up geting five rounds of quailfying in the first day and another two the next as well as the mains and we still managed to have everything wrapped up by 4:00.  It may have been hectic and chaotic for you guys but over on our side it seemed to be well orgainized.  Great job!

The track looked awesome.  I think I prefer to have a different track each week but there is the advantage of knowing a single track inside out.  Its too bad about the dips here and there but you did learn to drive around them.  I haven't had the guts to look at my chasis yet.  The ruts did looks awfuly carbon chasis colored....  The dots need some severe crushing - they were more like ski jumps than dots.  But then again you are suppose to drive on the track not the dots....  Traction was different than the other tracks.  I found the electric was hooking up nicely but had trouble (well more than normal) getting traction with Nitro.  Regardless the tires seemed to wear well - should make it to the end of the season :)

Truth be known the only "antics" that went on was Blake playing the concerned father figure to Rob..... who by the way did manage to make it back to the hotel all by himself....  oh and think up some rediculous storys on the way ;)

Racing was a blast and we had literally hours of track time over the three days.  I changed my X-Ray every race and pretty much ended up right back where I started from when I got there.  The only change I ended up keeping was some softer springs than the carpet ones that were in there.  I'm finally starting to notice when I change something how it affects the car.

Hey Doug,

Thanks for having us!  We had a great time!

No, we have not set a date for the Speed Weekend 2006.  However, as we did this year, we'll try and schedule it around all the other races (both onroad and offroad) that will occur next summer.
