If you dig Nitro, make plans to be at this race next summer.  Your electric gear will be on eBay the minute you get home....

Seriously, this track has to be seen (and raced on) to be believed.  Watching two world champion drivers and other top pros battling it out in 8th Scale was unlike anything I've ever seen before in R/C.

Didn't I see your name in 1/8 gas? Where'd you get the car for that? I never saw the final results, how did you finish?

I borrowed Fast Eddie's backup 8th scale: Serpent 950R.

I did not do very well.  I ran out of fuel in all three of my 10th Scale qualifiers!  Because of this, I qualified 14th and was in a bump-position in the B-Main until my engine started flaming out randomly at around the 15 min mark!  You have to tune a little differently on this track because you are wide-open-throttle a fair bit.  Lots of racers were actually pitting during qualifiers because they could not make the 5 mins.

My 8th ran flawlessly.  I qualified in the middle of the field and placed 3rd in the C-Main.  I didn't quite have the driving style I needed in this class.  The cars steer with the rear end so you have to use the horsepower to get the rear end loose.

Hey Nick,

Give it some serious thought.  If you dig gas racing then you will have a blast at this race.  Heck, it's still worth the trip even if you don't race!  Picture R/C Woodstock with R/Vs and tents scattered all over the owner's beautiful, treed, private property.  Then, in a huge clearing, sits one of the most unbelievable asphalt tracks this side of the Atlantic ocean.  And to top it all off, the owners/hosts are some of the nicest guys you'll ever meet and their wives serve up the most amazing feast for everyone on Saturday night.  Easily the neatest atmosphere I've ever experienced at a three day race like this.

Just make sure your engine is ready for some serious RPM.  The straight is LONG and it leads into a banked first corner which allows you to carry serious speed.  I ran the largest pinion available for the NT1 last year.  The A-Mains featured the current Nitro TC World Champion and an ex 8th Scale World Champion, as well as many other top caliber drivers.  Watching the A-Main of 8th Scale was an adrenaline rush.  There is no faster R/C road/track class than 8th Onroad.

July 20-22 2012

As you can tell, I fully intend on returning this year....
