Hey Guys and Gals are you ready for this once in a lifetime phenomenon??? Bring your $$ because I have a "few" things I am prepared to put on the block.  The actual list will follow but here are a few of the items:  tire warmers, Novak and Tekin 75 mhz receivers, Esc's, 1/10th scale wheels and tires (some glued sets) , 1/12th scale tires TC3 parts etc, etc.  I will bring the goodies to the track practice session Tuesday evening so get there first for best selection !!!!  PM me for pics if interested in certain items.

I am guessing that nobody cares to read this.

just curios why do people have to pm for info on stuff for sale?sure it might be a good idea but when u have a for sale forum that allows reply then why not reply

For me personally?  It reduces the amount of unnecessary posts that I have to read every time I log on.  We all know that Jim is selling something when he posted the msg and if we are not interested in buying then we won't be reading that post anymore but when someone replied to it, the post is marked as it was like new then we all kinna have to click on it to check to see what is going on (curious).  If that makes sense.

Sorry for the hijack but that is the only way to reply to BIGDAWG.

If a message is intended for an audience of one, then a PM is the correct way to convey that message.  If a message is intended for a multitude of readers, then a reply in the forum is appropriate.

Since you raised a point that it is obvious many people don't understand, this reply is appropriate to address it, even though it is off-topic.  Normally, the appropriate thing to do when introducing a new topic is to do it in a new topic, rather than changing the topic of a thread.  No matter, the damage has already been done.

However, if I had a particular question regarding something that Jim had for sale, this is not likely of interest to the unwashed masses, so it is far more apropriate to send a private message.

It's somewhat like at racing when some people announce things over the PA system, and other people will walk over to an individual for a one on one conversation.  I would expect Jammin to announce over the PA that he has some items for sale.  I would not expect others to come over and announce on the PA asking questions for the particulars of the sale, however it would be informative to announce on the PA that particular items had been sold so that everyone knew not to ask about that in the future.

This analogy is appropriate for determining what is good to announce on the forums (things you would expect to hear on a PA system), and what is appropriate for a private message (private conversations).  Just because someone announces something on the PA doesn't mean that is the most appropriate way for all further communications on that topic to be carried out.
