In Nitro we need to have some rules about who can race one I think. As I felt it was not safe on the track with one of the drivers this last weekend. He was all over the place, I know we all need to learn but maybe we could make sure a new drivers car only gets half throttle or something.
or If it looks like the driver is not in complete control of his car are we able to black flag him?

I understand where you are coming from Gord, but in all fairness I would hate to see this.

Its really easy to point at someone who might not be in control of there car, but we were all new at one time, and for some of us not all that long ago.  I just find it to be part of racing, and learning to avoid various cars can help my driving too.   Heck, I barely had control of my car for most of the race. (Body problems - Sorry trevor!x4)

I just think that a black flag, or a rookie rule, could potentially discourage people from coming out, and thats the last thing we need to do.

Just my $.02 (Does this round up to a Nickel now?)

Shawn

gotnitro

makes sense u would have to do the same to 18r i agree with shawn. we tend to have the car get away from you more from others but its just learning on where your skills are. Look at Craig with his 12 scale nearly taking our feet out in modified would you black flag him. Sorry craig you rookie ...lol pit lane is for pit lane.lol

Gorden

Then I think we need to make a safer spot for the guys standing out in the middle. no one has been hit yet but it's just a mater of time I think

valk

maybe bring out a couple peices of clicktrack to block off the marshal positions after the race has started. or build it up with extra boards.

I think there are good points from all, but there is something to be said for an out of control nitro car and an out of control stock touring car. Nitro can seriously injure someone when it hits at speed. Trust me, I have had a broken toe from an impact that I lost against a nitro car.  An oops on the throttle on an electric car is no big deal make one of those in nitro and your putting others at risk. Lets not kid ourselves, when anyone asks us about getting into RC we recommend an electric car, not a nitro one for starters. That also does not mean, I would presume, we would stop someone from showing up but its our insurance, marshals, and spectators we have to watch out for. If its one of us in the club that got hurt sad as that would be, we know the risk, cant say those that watch and stand to close to the boards would feel the same way.

I raise you $.03 Shawn    lol    ;D

Well said Bruce! ;-)

How soon we all forget that we were all there once too.  Yes it is more dangerous with a nitro car but instead of hindering we should be helping.  IROCC used be known for helping each other out.  He has already improved in the 2-3 race days he had been at.  We can all think of many examples of cars being driven broken or unsafe why are we picking on the new guy, let's help him.

That's why I posted this not to hinder but to ask how it could be done. The black flag part was for trying to drive a broken or uncontrollable car

As with this internet form it can be taking the wrong way I hope its not taken as picking on any one driver if it was

I apologize

Good points from all.  Gord's post will hopefully trigger some of our more veteran Nitro racers to maybe take a quick look at Ryan's car this weekend.

PS.  I came close to black flagging NickF's car once because he was completely out of control.  In some cases, I think it's warranted.

PPS.  Nine cars in Nitro yesterday was awesome!  And that was without myself, Glenn, and Doug.  If 10+ cars show up then we'd definitely want to split into two heats which would make it better for everyone.

then i guess the question arises, do we want to implement a quick tech inspection during registration to make sure the cars conform to rules/are safe to run? im not experienced enough to determine relative safety as far as that goes. what determines safe to run?

Nitro was definitely the highlight of my weekend, even when my car blew up and i cornered for the last 10 minutes lol. 4/9 finish is good though.. right? cant wait for speed weekend/queen alexandra and 3 heats of nitro ;)
