I was inspired by the CRC bumper.....

But I like to make my own custom parts so here it is, it is made out of 1/8" lexan.

Ugh.

Be careful. Bumpers like that can cause lots of damage due to the reduction of the crumple zone the body provides.

Also, bumpers tend to bend down and rub on the carpet, ruining handling.

What I've found works best is a little piece of bumper foam that gives the body support.

So the CRC carbin fiber bumper for the WGT car is made to crumple? I went with Lexan as it will have less tendance to bend under like the foam bumper I was using. I have made it to absorb impact as best as I can. I based it on an CRC design.

+1 for making it yourself. much respect for homemade business.

i run this bumper and it has saved me a lot of busted up corners. cheap, though you have to modify it to fit under the body, or on some pancar body posts, but whateves.

Ok, two things got me interested in doing this. I saw a car at our track with the CRC bumper and the Slapmaster foam bumper I was using was bending down and starting to rub. I have changed 2 things though, I replaced the 2 steel fasteners with aluminum and I made the mounting holes larger and installed ruber grommets in the holes. Now the bumper is basically floating independent of the chassis and will deflect during an impact.

I recommend steel fasteners in this application. I predict much grief from broken off aluminum screws.

You may be intending for the screws to be sacrificial. If so, be prepared for lots of broken screws which may end races prematurely.

And, I never suggested that carbon fibre bumpers were designed to crumple.

My wording was poor on the CRC WGT bumper, they are quite close to the front of the car with little space between the bumper and the body so little crumple zone. As for the aluminum screws, yes that is my intention and I do have lots. Time will tell how easy they will fail. I also have aluminum screws in the bumper mounting on my WGT car with no rubber gromets to cushion them but I do have a cut down (thinner) CRC foam bumper installed to the hard Lexan bumper.
