TC

Hello everyone, my name is TC.

I have been racing 2wd and 4wd 1/10 and 1/8th scale buggies with COR for three years now, but have been into hobby-grade RC since the late 80's, and thought I'd pick up a used touring car and check this side of things out.

I don't see myself having time to race on-road regularly, but I'd love to make some practice nights and attend the odd race.

I am very excited about the new indoor facility, which is what spurred me on to pick up a touring car.

What are the body-rules for the touring class, and is there a beginner and/or stock 17.5 class for this upcoming season?

Thanks and hope to see you soon!

We basically follow roar 17.5 blinky rules for touring car and run a spec tire to keep people on the same field. You can run any 17.5 turn motor you want with zero timing from the esc. Blinky mode.
For big speed weekend we encourage roar approved 17.5 motors which means no d3.5s

Bodies are any roar 190mm touring car sedan body. Most people use protoform. We do have one racer running an rx8 though.

Hardcase 2s lipo.

Following roar is just easier as we do get decent traffic from.vancouver in summer and nanaimo in winter.

Welcome to onroad =]

This is also true. Blake has one or two spec r still. Since you have radio and batteries maybe servos, you could prob get the car, motor and esc for under $200.
I could also point out that if you just want to play with it on practice nights, your 1/10 buggy gear will transfer right over. You could put a modified tc together on the very cheap just needing a kit. That would be cheapest. Then iffyou wanted to race with us, jist pick ip a 17.5 motor. I'm sure lots ofus will practice at the new facility so potential racing even on practice nights.
I'm gonna be there with mod tc just burning packs and tires heh

Thanks for the info Valk, and I have a used car lined up, just need to line up the cash now as I also have a new 2wd buggy coming my way.

Hey TC,

Good to see you got through the registration process!  If you are looking for a body, there are a few at the Shaver Shop.  They are stacked in their own stack, on top of some shelving beside the big glass case/desk toward the middle of the store.  Look for a MazdaSpeed 6 or an LTC-R.  Those are the most common and best handling touring car bodies at the moment.

Touring stock (17.5 Blinky) is likely the most common onroad class in North America.  We've been running it for years outdoors and usually get three heats of cars so the competition is good.  I hope we can continue that this indoor season.  Typically, indoor, the biggest class for IROCC is 12th Scale pan cars and I would expect that to continue this winter.  They are cheaper, quicker, and more agile than the touring cars, but can be a handful to drive if not setup well.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks Blake, I've been watching a few videos and the pan cars look a bit aggressive for me.  I'm looking forward to seeing them run though, looks impressive!

!/12 pan cars are the most agile cars you can drive. The biggest problem crossing over from off-road is the fact that there is no delay with steering input, as soon as you turn the wheel the car reacts. There is no waiting for the tires to dig in as in off road. It takes a bit of getting used to but it's worth it in the end.  I think that 1/12 scale racing is the closest and most competitive racing we have in the club.

TC, If you can, come out tomorrow befor off road racing starts and take a touring car for a few laps. If the rent-a-ride is not available you can take my car for a spin.

Hey thanks Neil, that would be a great idea, but I am pretty locked-down here til noonish.  Hopefully soon I can make it out to see how that all goes!

Thanks again!

It will take me a month or so to get things going as my 4wd buggy needs a new esc before I start getting some touring cars electronics.

You can swap electrics just for one day. Everything from your 1/10 buggies is directly compatible.
