Old school brushed 1/12

Question for the more tech savy guys. If a 1/12 was put together with a brushed motor using a lipo battery it still needs a booster or receiver pack right?  Regardless that the speedo won't have low voltage protection but it should be fine for 8 minutes I presume if geared right.

When I switched to a futaba radio I didn't need a booster anymore.

Noted, I am not buying a new radio, but I thought the booster was for the servo

John, aren't you running an Orca esc that doesn't need a booster?

I am running an orca but when I first used my futaba it was with a tekin.

You needed a booster to.power the rx and servo. You wouldn't have needed a cap in your touring car if that's what you meant. Unless you had an rx pack for 12th scale.

Yes I think you're correct.  You'll need a booster (or receiver battery pack) so that your receiver, servo, and ESC will function properly off the 3.7V from the 1s LiPo.  Good call on the LVC... you'll need to be careful about that.  Just make sure you always fully charge the battery and don't run more than about 8-9 mins and you'll be safe I would think.

Thinking about it again, I wonder if there will be a problem with the ESC operating properly on 3.7V of main input power?  Thomas might know more... but maybe there could be a problem with the FETs not working correctly or something since they would be expecting at least 4.8V generally on older brushed ESCs.

Glenn, what type of ESC are you using?  I ran LIPO & Brushed with my Novak GTX for part of a winter, and I remember it worked fine.

Glenn go back to am radio and nicad and that should fix any problems.

I was gonna but I have misplaced all my am radio recievers and I spent most of the week testing my old ni-mh and they are all toast lol.

Thought an old school race could be cool. For practice nights. Brushed pre-99 chassis or so. Something to crash around with lol.

  I have an LRP in there now but also have a gt7 and gtx I could use.
