Hey guys.
I looking for some insight on tire wear patterns. I've been going through my indoor stuff and noticed my pancar front tires are quite tapered from large on the inside edge to small on the outside edge. I'm running 1deg of negative camber and the inside wheel doesn't lift when cornering. Also the car seemes to have good traction in the corners. I change and true my tires regularly so I'm wondering if my camber should be increased to even out the wear or just run it as is? Logic would dictate that I'm running on a very small contact patch until the tire scrubs in to the tapered shape would it not?
I should note that I've only been running pancars for 3 seasons and  most fine tuning settings are still a mystery to me.
Thanks in advance
Jordy

if i remember correctly most people run 2 deg?

i used to just adjust it for even wear, but have been told thats not the best way.lol

typically you will add/subtract camber to get the tires to wear flat. though you can expect the front driver side tire to have more wear to it than the other as we always have the fast sweeper on the same side. I typically run 1.5ยบ camber in my cars. adjusting a very small amount to suit tire wear. ive run as little as .8 in the mod car.

if your coned on the outside, just add more camber. no worries, im just going onto my 4th season now.. i still dont really KNOW what a lot of the different things do. i generally set the car to manual and leave it lol.

Hey Jordy,

It can be very track/carpet/layout dependent.  At the IROCC track, you can get away with 1.5deg negative camber.  If you try anything more than 0.75deg on a high bite track, you'll traction roll all over the place.  So yes, I would start by adding some camber until the tires wear flat.  I think I generally run 1.0deg and the tires wear flat for me.  You should try 1.5deg.  There could possibly be differences in other aspects of our setups and driving styles which may cause our tires to wear differently.

Make sure you measure your camber multiple times, rotating the front wheel to a few different positions.  Non-true wheels can give a false reading if you only take a single reading.

I hope that helps,
Blake

PS.  How much traction compound are you using on the front tires?

dajracer

Not only how much traction wash but if you aren't doing the whole tire, are you doing the inside or outside of the tire? Where the compound is used will make a difference to wear on that side of the tire.
Hope to see you down at the new track sometime Jordy.

what kind of car 1/12 wgt  .slop in the front bearings or upper ,lower suspension pivot  can cause tire to roll over causing wear but wont show sitting so gauge reads 1 but no when loaded

I'm running an RC12 5.2. Front end is widened to maximum ROAR rules. I sauce 2/3 the inside of the fronts the or full tire if I'm on a really tight twisty track. I'll try an extra .5 deg camber and check the slop in the front end.
Also should note I tend to oversteer and correct in most corners. But that's a learning thing for me.
Im also looking forward to racing in Vic a couple of times this winter. Especially on road saturday and then offroad sunday.
