March 25-26: Vancouver's First 1/28th Scale Trophy Race

Minirc.ca is small club located in Vancouver B.C Canada of 1/28th Remote Control enthusiasts. And we are proud to host our first 1/28th scale trophy race!! We will be running on a RCP foam track which offers a lot of grip from rubber tires or foam. Different class to give the novice drivers and more experienced drivers a challenge on the track. And ultimate bragging rights will become fact with the use of our Lap timing system.

Location: Aberdeen Mall, Richmond, B.C
Date: March 25 and 26, 2006
Time: Mall doors open at 10am Saturday and 11am Sunday
----- Racing starts 1pm Saturday and 1pm Sunday-----

Track Information: RCP Foam Track and Lap Timing by Core Racing, trophies handed out to the top 3 finishers per class.
Race Fees: $15 per driver.

Sounds interesting! Anyone from Victoria interested? Even for a Sat or Sun of racing I think it would be ahoot! I have a couple of cars I could lend someone if need be.

Hey, folks.

Well, my first Mini-Z race completed and I'm even more hooked!

The guys at MiniRC did a great job and the event was nicely paced. Thanks for your hospitality, Guys. The lapcounting system by Core is something else. it's largely HTML based and the graphics are nice as are the graphs and charts as options. The transponder is thinner than a business card and about the same dimensions. I brought over some of my RCP track which was merged with the existing track to make a really nice layout with a long straight and technical infield.

Insofar as racing in a mall is concerned, it's hard to think of a better place! Really! There was always a crowd of people watching around the edges and they'd cheer and clap when the drivers had crash-induced tears in their eyes

! The food court was right beside the track so food and restrooms were handy. Parking passes were provided, pit name tags, too. The area was cordoned off and spectators were not permitted in thte pits. There was enough time between each heat for stock to be able to rebuild the mini between each race. I think this paid dividends for me (keeping the drive train free and efficient) since it did earn me TQ and 1st place stock honors.

In retrospect I'd likely want to run mod next time, too, but I wouldn't upgrade the electronics - just the motor. With the stock motor (XSpeed) I would have been in and around 4th-5th in mod at least during the qualifying, anyway. I tried a no-fet stock motor (with bearings) upgrade during practice and I loved it. Even with the smallest possible pinion I was easily knocking 1 full second off my laptimes and I didn't really need to change my setup. I suppose that the XSpeed could be run with a larger pinion, too.

So, I'd really recommend this for anyone looking for an inexpensive way to get a lot of racing in. With the stock class being familiar to IROCC it would be a hoot! I hope to be able to organize an indoor race series at some of the local malls in Victoria but likely not until the fall although I'm not certain just yet. Wait for it ....

One last note .... mmmmmmmm F1 mmmmmmmmm.

Thank-you for the update, sounds like a well-organized event, even if it was micro-cars :wink:
Anyways the small size definately makes it easy to setup at a great venue like a mall.

Too bad I sold my mini-z F1 I guess! Although I did get 245 USD for it!! (and only payed 49 bucks NIB hehehe)
